Idk how you found this space, but you're more than welcome to stay! 💕 I've somehow turned into a Hetalia/Nordic Hetalia blog, so I thought I'd better change up my pin to better reflect that.
Quick notes: I really only tag things to either gush about whatever I'm reblogging or because I believe that one day it will actually work as a functioning system that I can use to reference. So my tagging system is mostly useless to you. I rarely reblog or post anything nsfw and I haven't quite found a personal tag that will work for that, so sorry if you stumble into one of those posts.

Ships: I am, at my core, a SuFin and DenNor shipper. However, I have also become an avid NorFin shipper, along with SuNor, DenSu, and DenFin. I have also been introduced to RomNor and ScotNor, and the people involved know that they are in the process of converting me to those ships. I'm pretty sure Iceland is aro/ace in my head because I really just don't love shipping him with anyone. (I don't hate HongIce, I just don't personally go out of my way to ship it. 🤷 Ice is just a solitary creature to me.)
This year (2023): My intention is to slow down on how many stories I write in one year. I kinda overdid it this last year, and I got burn out a couple of times. My focuses for this year are to wrap up my two almost finished wips and continue progress on my longer wip. I also have a new series I started, based off an AU I wrote in 2021 that I look forward to sharing with you! Other goals I have are to write a few more character studies and maybe expand on some of the pairings I have been exposed to, and really challenge my writing skills. There are some aspects that I feel like I've left behind recently that I'd like to bring back and hone better.
Bonus: I've decided to open my askbox this year for 1k story prompts, headcanons, refs, and some get-to-know-me's. If you have questions about my writing, writing processes, or other things about me that I haven't answered before, send them in. I'd also like to work more with 1k sprints to challenge my writing, so please send me a prompt and a pair/writing request at your leisure. I usually only write human AUs, so if you'd like any headcanons, give me a character and I'll see what I can come up with. (All of my country-verse headcanons, I feel like, are meh but I'm willing to give it a go if you want some of that, too! After all, I have done a few of them in the past.) In Finnish folklore, a person was thought to not just possess a single soul, but several different spiritual forces. All of which had unique roles in the whole being.
Henki was the literal life force that kept the body alive, as it was responsible for vital bodily functions and consciousness. This ancient word still appears in the modern Finnish expressions such as "henki pois" and "menettää henkensä" , both of which mean that someone has died. Traditionally, when a person passed away, it was important to open the windows of the house so their Henki could leave to the Underworld. Otherwise, the deceased would remain behind as a restless ghost that haunted the home.
Itse represented a person's identity; the self. It encompassed one's personality, temperament, and all the traits that made someone who they were. This belief was connected to the tradition of passing names down through generations. It was thought that the soul of a deceased relative could be reborn within a newborn child, if the child received that relative's name. Parents might therefore choose the name of a particularly brave, wise, or respected ancestor in the hopes that the child would inherit those same qualities.
Luonto or Haltija, was the part of the soul responsible for a person's health and well-being, sometimes thought to be an actual "guardian spirit". Illness, addiction, or psychological distress were thought to be signs that a person's Luonto had weakened or been lost. Some people were believed to be born with a particularly strong Luonto (vahvaluontoinen), enabling them to endure great hardships. While others were considered born "weak-minded" (heikkoluontoinen), making them more vulnerable to life's challenges.
Finally, Finns spoke of Etiäinen; the part of the person's soul that moved ahead in another timeline or layer of the universe. Etiäinen could appear as a premonition, omen, or the uncanny feeling of having already experienced a moment before it actually happened. People might hear someone's footsteps or voice before the person actually arrived, believing their Etiäinen arrived first. Even today, Finns sometimes say they get "etiäinen" which is the ominous feeling that something is about to happen.
In the context of Hetalia, I think this folklore belief would be a wonderful way for Finland to explain and construct his own immortality. It would make sense that he would believed his immortality or whole existence was the result of his multiple souls in action!
I finally got around to join the Nordic Week at @hws-nordic-week! This is for Day 4 - Folklore.
Here's Nor and his hulder friend Hildegunn. The drawing is a slightly edited scene from a fic I wrote, in which neither the tail nor the glowing eyes are mentioned. Feli has just woken up from a much needed and safe sleep, and sees his rescuers for the first time, and there's something about the beautiful woman that unnerves him, and he doesn't know why. It isn't until later that he learns that she's not human, and even later he learns just how dangerous hulders are.

@hws-nordic-week day 4! I really wanted to at least contribute something for one of the seven awesome days, so here’s some folklore!
Translation:

Norway is portraying a Norwegian hundrekall, a humanoid creature with a cow tail and a hole in their back. The huldrekall’s female counterpart (huldre) lure men with her to marry them, make them guard her farm animals, have children, and so on and so forth. I assume it’s the same for huldrekalls to do the exact same thing. (either with the opposite gender or not idk)
As for Denmark, he is portraying a Danish troll. Danish trolls are the “odd man out” out of the different Nordic trolls, since they are smaller, have horns, don’t eat humans and don’t turn into stone in the sun. Danish trolls are also more “human-friendly” than their Swedish, Norwegian and Icelandic counterparts.
Whilst the selkie is a relatively well-known folk-creature online, they only appear in the folklore of a handful of cultures. One of those being, of course, the Faroe Islands. The seal is a half-seal half-human figure, who shed their seal coats under the night sky as they climb onto land.
Within Mikladalur in the Faroe Islands, there stands a statue of a selkie woman. This is a reference to Mikladalur's specific Selkie tale. The tale of a man who hides the coat of a selkie woman to force her to marry him. He kept the coat locked away in a chest and took the key with him everywhere, until one day he realises he accidentally left it at home. Naturally, the woman stole the key and freed her coat and herself, returning to the sea. The man never heard from her again, until years later when he is on a seal hunt, and she attempts to warn him in his dream not to kill her seal husband and seal children. Of course, he doesn't listen, and she swears revenge on him and on the men of Mikladalur for what they did to her family.
With the Folklore theme I wanted to touch upon a part of Norwegian/Nordic folklore that isn't talked about much. Going all the way back to the Norse mythologies and likely even further, there is the idea of humans turning into animal form by dressing in a skin (ham) of that animal. The Norse gods often dressed as different animals when they visited Midgard, where the humans lived.
