10k race - complete!
I ran my first 10k race this morning. I don't have an official time yet, but I had myself at 55:16! I'm pretty pumped about it, as I was hoping for a 9:20-9:10 pace. On my first 5 miles I hit right around 9:00 for each mile split. This felt like a solid pace; I wasn't dying but it wasn't easy either. Around mile 5 I started getting a side stitch, and when it wouldn't go away I decided I'd walk for a little bit. After my walk break I was able to catch everyone who passed me, and my last 1.2 miles was about an 8:30 pace, so I definitely had a bit left in the tank. I sprinted into the finish line and tried to catch one last person in front of me, but as soon as I passed her she booked it... I didn't stand a chance. =) I also did an "obstacle course" (it involved burpees and running under hurdles) and a 200 meter sprint as part of a relay. It was a pretty fun day, but I am so hungry now. Despite eating the better part of a half pound burger and fries at 2:30 I'll probably be getting Chipotle in an hour or so.
