As a child, there were moments when I thought my mom is a tool of torture and other times an instrument of inspiration. No matter what I thought, I would always be able to rely on her. After leaving her side, I realized that mom never intended to humiliate or hurt. All she wanted was for me to grow and become the best I’m capable of becoming. #HaimGinott Stories of my mom elicit exasperation, disbelief, and responses like “The phrase ‘tiger mom’ comes in mind.” “How could a mom say that to her daughter?” This was simply the way she loved me. I never questioned her love even when these stories were happening in the past. Mom is a well sought out #MusicTeacher in Taiwan. 🎼👩🏻‍🏫She instilled the value that grace, elegance, cultivation and refinement, are more important than physical appearance. I’ve always been artistic on paper, but I wouldn’t wear makeup. I was surrounded by girls dressed in designer clothes in high school, but I would wear hand-me-downs. It was important for me to excel academically, artistically and musically. (Mom tried to put me in plenty of sports classes, but I was never coordinated enough to claim to be athletic.) Mom said that she won’t be able to leave me with a large inheritance, but she will leave me with useful skills that I can resort to as jobs. I was obedient enough to learn to play the piano, the #violin, and joined the band to learn the F horn. (There was also visual arts, but I didn’t need anyone to push me to learn. It was a reward when I got to stay up to make art after I finished my homework.) I ended up becoming a pharmacist l, but one who has a background to enjoy more aspects of life. During my wedding, my mom walked me down the aisle with her playing #CanonInD on the violin. It was one of these moments that #OnlyHappensInMovies. Mom said that she has done what is most important as a mother, to be such a big part of her daughter’s wedding: the #WalkDownTheAisle.
