happy holidays, ama!! <3 <3 Fanfic/Author Ask Game: What is something you recently felt proud of in your writing? I had a piece of original fiction published this year and recently saw a passage a friend had highlighted when they shared it and thought, "Yeah, that section does rule." I'm proud of developing a better handle on what a strong standalone, original piece of short fiction looks like. But the more I dive into original fiction, the more I'm honestly really proud of the TLT fic trio. I kind of wonder if I've peaked lol. There are some good sentences in there! And they have a level of fun that I may spend many years trying to get back to! Who knows! Have you noticed your style change over time? The grammar has only marginally improved. I think it's always a tug of war between maximalism and then trying to reign in it and use maximalism responsibly and effectively. And probably never quite getting the balance right.
Hyperfixation station: I am fairly certain Necro Elysium was fuelled entirely by Eisley's Oxygen Mask, which I think is peak Mercymorn/Cristabel. Once AO3's illustrious thatyourefuse slipped me The Gaslight Anthem's Halloween, which is a Song Of All Time and I interpreted as inherently Augustine/Mercymorn and I won't be stopped. This was years ago now and it continuously makes my top 50 most played songs lists. I am always here.
