One might expect it to be Oliver, but that poor boy is so far disconnected from his emotions, it’s a wonder he even remembers to say ‘please and thank you’ at breakfast.

No, Oliver’s consumed with what he always has on his brain: playing Quidditch and beating Marcus at, well, everything. He’s a tad competitive that lad.

Marcus actually prides himself on being a romantic one, privately.

When he’s not competing with Oliver that is.

But he’ll break the bones of anyone who finds out about it. He’s still Marcus Flint after all.

It actually takes Oliver a while to catch onto the fact, and at first, he thinks this too is a part of their competitive nature.

If Marcus leaves a box of chocolate frogs in Oliver’s locker, Oliver owls him twelve dozen roses.

A love letter letter gets Marcus a pair of, er, unmentionables… that he definitely doesn’t wear during his next match.

And they certainly don’t distract Oliver in the slightest when Marcus flashes him, certainly not. Oliver Wood is a professional Quidditch player and Captain…It’s definitely the quaffle ball that unseats him from his broom.

And he snarls at anyone who dares to say differently because Oliver Wood, doesn’t like to loose. Especially to Marcus Flint.

It’s after Marcus has pounded in the faces of at least three Ravenclaw students and seven Gyrffindor boys (the Slytherins don’t dare to say a word and the Hufflepuffs don’t gossip in public), that he thinks it might be time to have a conversation about their elaborate gift exchanges.

Oliver takes the news rather well—incredibly so—considering, Marcus comes to find out, the Scotsman didn’t even know the gifts were meant to be sincere.

“So, you like me then? Is that it?”

“And people say I’m the daft one,” Marcus snorts.

“You aren’t still wearing those knickers I got you by any chance, are you?” Oliver uncrosses his arms.

“I might be,”

“I was hopin’ you’d say that,”

The kiss is nice, a lot smoother than most of their kisses have been in the past, and Marcus briefly wonders if this one actually counts as their first proper kiss…

Once it turns to snogging though, Marcus doesn’t really care to think about it anymore. Plenty of time for romance after a good toss in the sheets.

Of course, Marcus is determined to beat Oliver this time, and he even makes a bet out of it,

“I win, and we go for a real, proper date.”

“Alright,” Oliver grins, “But if I win— I’m tellin’ everyone we’re a couple, and I do mean everyone.”

The next Sunday, they’re on their first real and proper date, and Marcus has never been happier.

He still beats up his first Hufflepuff the same day though, for catching them holding hands underneath the table at their booth.

Oliver disapproves, but it doesn’t stop him from kissing his bloke outside the Astronomy tower. Marcus returns the affection in kind, beginning a sort of game between the two.

“I think,” Marcus grins, his lips swollen and his cheeks flush, “this is almost better than Quidditch.”

“Almost,” Oliver agrees, and Marcus knows that’s practically an ‘i love you’ in keeper Scotsman. His heart flutters dangerously in his chest and Marcus leans back in to steal another kiss, silencing the words that want to leap from his mouth,

‘I love you too, Oliver Wood.’
