🕷 ⸻ look at them ; from little boys with crooked teeth & lopsided smiles to young men so lost in the world very literally at each other's throats ! goblin's claws slice through spandex & sink into the skin of his throat , lungs scream for air & strained face reddens with vision honed in on he who'd sent his one love -- his hope for the future hurdling to her doom . ❝ you -- ! ❞ growled through gritted teeth . try as he might to diffuse it , despair has morphed into an ugly , enraged mutant of himself caught in the reflection of harry's inhuman eyes . peter wrenches a first free , slams it into the jaw of one he once considered his very best friend . ❝ you wouldn't listen t'me , harry ! i didn't take away your hope -- you did ! ❞ both feet plunge into an armored torso , then to wrap around it , pin him down with the face of fury hovering above green goblin . his voice trembles as he speaks . ❝ 'n you killed gwen ! y - you . . . ! ❞ peter hauls the other up & above ground level by the collar of his under armor , jerks him around like he's nothing . footsteps drag the two towards rooftop's towering ledge with harry dangling . ❝ you killed the love of my life , you selfish son of a -- ❞

something nestled deep within him shatters -- though it's not what he expected . he tugs harry close , collapses to his knees & hugs him to his frame -- suddenly a mess of tearful sorrow . ❝ why'd it have t'be this way , harry ? ❞

         ❛ i wait for you to call , but sometimes .. you don’t call at all. ❜

          ❛ i love interning here , so i promise i’m not complaining or anything ... ❜ a beat passes , then two. her lip is caught betwixt top teeth whilst eyes avert elsewhere. liz contemplates how best to articulate what she means sans misconstrual. she’s not quite sure how , but in a mere instant the metrics don’t seem to matter. overthinking ceases. she becomes alight with bravery then , figuring now that she’s already started ... she may as well finish. there’s no turning back now , she thinks. ❛ it’s just ... i can’t tell if the mentor i was placed with likes me , or thinks i’m a total idiot. ❜

          ❛ sometimes   when   i   ask   questions,   i   get            scary   answers.   i   figured   it   was   safe   to   leave   that   up   to   you. ❜       may   offers   the   young   man   a   gentle   smile,   eyes   raking   over   him   for   any   obvious,   dangerous   sign   of   injury.       ❛ you   don’t   have   to   tell   me   what   happened              just   tell   me   how   i   can   help. ❜

+ The ODDS weren’t in her favor .  She didn’t have SUPER-POWERS , nor a huge array of GADGETS to rely on . At this point, she would have even settled for a set of SCYTHES to keep her hands occupied . The lead PIPE in her one hand wasn’t even much of a match for the one in front of her. At this point, however, Mary Jane Watson was DETERMINED . To her, that made up all the HANDICAPS in her corner.

+ A long SIGH slipped past equally tired lips . New York was never an EASY city . Growing up here hadn’t been EASY , and that was BEFORE she’d landed within Aunt Anna’s house . Her aunt had FOSTERED every hope and dream she’d had, no matter how TOUGH the going got. Standing on the very CUSP of a big break within the ACTING WORLD was everything Mary Jane had ever wanted ... wasn’t it ? 

Why did it feel as though she were standing on the edge of a CLIFF ?

it’s unwarranted — but unsurprising coming from someone half-wrapped in daddy issues and insufficiencies masqueraded as arrogance ( she would know ).  she’s not the gwen that belongs to this world.  not the one he knows.  not the one that died within reach of her lover.  no.  she’s the villain in her own narrative,  in the flickers of thoughts that linger and never releases no matter how hard she fights back.  not when she’s awake.  not when she’s sleep.  this boy whose bones she could crush underneath her fingers if she exerts too much force is no one to her.  he’s not the harry she knew,  she knows.  circumstances and decisions — she sees the splitter between the two so visible it’s nearly tangible.  like looking onto a disfigured version of familiar faces.  the slight illusions cast by fun-house mirrors that leaves one feeling topsy-turvy.  it does not matter how much she travels in-between dimensions.
