The blur was painful and he could taste the colors. He lurched forward, back at the station once more, but this time he knew to not blink against the lights. He stepped to the side, moving with Liam's motion.

"This is what it always comes down to, isn't it?" Liam's voice crackled through the speaker in Burden's helmet.

He could taste bile now. Burden didn't know which was worse–the endless color of failed lives, or his empty stomach's contents. "You remember too?" Burden rasped.

Liam paused. He stared, the fear flickering across his face.

Burden knew he could have taken this as his chance to kill Liam right then and there. But the hope in him that said they could be allies, friends or more again–it was clamped around his wrists like the shackles they always were.
