Playful Little Penguins
Playful Little Penguins (written by Tony Mitton and illustrated by Guy Parker-Rees) is a colorful picture book that features penguins and seals with different emotions. Several lines of the book repeat which helps with print and phonological awareness.
Sharing the book with your child is an opportunity to practice reading, writing, and singing
After reading, try this paper penguin craft to help children to practice manual dexterity and cutting skills, which will help them get ready to write on their own:
Craft supplies:
1 large piece of blue construction paper
1 large piece of black construction paper
1 small piece of white construction paper
1 small piece of orange construction paper
1 pair of eyeball stickers or googley eyes
1 cotton swab
Small amount of white acrylic or craft paint
Gluestick or liquid school glue
Safety scissors
White crayon or colored pencil
Instructions:
Using the white crayon or pencil draw the body shape of a penguin and 2 wings on black paper.
Next trace a white tummy to fit inside the black outline.
Cut 2 feet and 1 beak out of the orange paper.
Glue the pieces together and add the eye stickers or googley eyes.
Dip the end of a cotton swab in white paint and dab all over the blue paper to make snowflakes.
Enjoy your new penguin friend!
It was not what i expected. I liked de illustrations but not the text. I didn't like the animals dancing all kind of dances, mambo, rhumba etc. I thought the animals would dance more like children's games or songs. The little boy, 6 years old, to whom I gave the didn't enjoy it either. The only thing I liked about the book was the cover illustration. Thank you, I appreciate you ask for my opinion. Sonia
