Looking back through the years, I really don't see us mentioning Thin White Rope. That's a damn shame. You might say, hey - you've posted about them once and hash tagged them more than five times. Thin White Rope (Davis, CA) is a band that deserves much more than that.

So when I heard (and loved) Charlie Mootheart's (Los Angeles, CA) "Soft Crime EP" (Famous Class Records), I immediately thought of the guitar sounds of Thin White Rope. Listen to "Soft Crime" (get to :50 to 1:20) and tell me you don't hear the amazing guitar interplay of Guy Kyser and Roger Kunkel.

I remember the first time I heard Samara Lubelski’s “The Fleeting Skies” (released in 2004) back in 2008.  I was taken back by the beautiful instrumentation and haunting vocals.  She subsequently made several solo records - each with its own sound. 

Lubelski has just released “Flickers at the Station” on Drawing Room Records (New York).  Her hushed vocals and pop sensibilities are in the forefront again.  This is restrained in spots and downright joyous in others.
