Though in my mind I don't think the way lions interacted was actually noted by anyone until Africa was discovered (this is just a guess I'm no genius so pls don't judge-) and with how many of the celestial beings only ever knew about the life in China, then there's a good chance that Nezha didn't even know about how lions treat rival cubs until the modern age came to light.
