I love those black stripes under the giants' eyes so much. Like frozen tears. Giants cry invisibly throughout their lives.
Thanks! It’s actually inspired by the eye markings of a cheetah, since wood giants share similar characteristics to cheetahs!
The main thing they share in common is the claws on their feet, which are non-retractable, and dig into the ground when they run to help them accelerate fast, and maintain very high speeds. Despite wood giants being much larger, they’re able to run a similar speed to cheetahs at 60 mph.
random gt prompt (?)
Hear me out on this, we all know the trope "borrower becomes a parental figure for a human" and its variations. However, we also know it's not very coherent for a borrower to take care of huge children (extremely time, mentally and physically consuming) in their own and still keep their lifestyles without indulging into human civilization (borrowers in most settings are very isolated from jobs, education, money and legal matters)
I have a recurrent scenario about a human who was raised by human parents (and also usually has a good relationship with them) but since a very young age, that human has cohabitated with tiny adults and children borrowers in the same home, and thus has learned their ways and traditions, making the human truly feel like one of them. This is possible because the human parents know the existence of borrowers and let them live in their homes as their 'guests', a literally no-secret double family.
This is possible because: the human parents are very modern, and open-minded, and/or respect borrowers like true benevolent fae. And as for the borrower side, to build trust and let their kids mingle with each other is a very difficult task but that forges deep bonds without compromising the way of living they're used to.
Just thinking how cool it would be if this human met a random borrower, and they were already super knowledgeable and gentle (but also awkward because the human would assume wrongly they're not seen as a threat, used to the trust of the few borrowers they had lived with) because they technically had a borrower family by their side the whole time.
Hello, can I ask a doodle of how you see the fangs and claws of the Aphirials? Thanks.
This is such a late response I'm super sorry! Continuing to try to finish going through asks and here's some claw and fang doodles (cw: anatomical skull). As well as some related world building rambling no one asked for.
Aphirials naturally have sharp/fairly long claws and keeping them long and neatly groomed and/or decorated is generally fashionable in Aphirial society, especially in the region Easton is from. Hunting (with the use of said claws) is a popular past time and being able to keep claws manicured when they're frequently used generally means the Aphirial in question has the resources to do so, so they're also seen as a class/status symbol, and that's made painting/decorating them even more popular.
Single color polish and simple designs like white tips or a flower has been a widely accepted go to for the middle classes across age groups and genders for a while. More fashion forward Aphirials, as well as upper classes (especially "new money" and celebrities) go for more intricate or outlandish designs from complicated patterns to nail charms type things. Having messy or bare nails has been and is generally looked down on, but there's also been micro trends of like clear polish, natural claws, etc.
And then there's Easton who filed his claws down to a "Looks human" length to not alarm the humans or accidentally scratch anything because they are SHARP. When he was back on Aphiria he usually just painted them some muted shade of green or brown though.
So lore…I came up with some for the boy in the walls. Note that this has yet to become canon, but probably will eventually. So if you don’t want spoilers for what will happen in the story please don’t read.
So here’s some of the basic stuff. There is a borrower empire with an entire ruling system that is held in the sewers. Makes since right? No one ever goes down there so they can afford to make a massive (for borrowers) empire. Anyway so in this empire there’s a government system where three rulers are decided upon every 10 years.
The thing about this empire though, it that it’s so secret most borrowers don’t even know about it. Only the borrowers deemed special enough by the rulers may join. And they are very strict about the rules. You know the usual rules like “never speak to a human” or “never be seen” and such, yeah well they have punishments for people who break those rules.
So when the house borrower Oliver, who has never even heard of the empire, breaks the key rules things get messy. Oliver gets visited by one of the generals for the borrower empire. He gets kidnapped and is forced to join the borrower army. Oliver is forced to change his identity all together and must earn his ranking before he is allowed into the outside world at all.
There are four different ranking types. Feathers, which is soldiers who ride flying animals and mostly do scouting. Leafs, who gather materials and go foraging. Acorns, who do ground level exploring and ride rodents. And lastly, Needles, who are the main combat of the empire, they train in human annihilation and heavy combat.
As Oliver becomes more accustomed to the new environment, he begins to learn why the empire is so strict about its rules not being broken. The empire’s leaders had founded the entire organization in order to eventually overthrow the humans. The people who have attempted to contact humans and warn about the upcoming war are either locked up or, if they gave away too much information, they have their memories wiped.
Oliver was spared of the memory wipe because he hadn’t known about the organization, but is warned that if he ever contacted a human he would be executed.
Oliver does discover that civilization life is actually quite pleasant as it is much easier to borrow with the empire’s help. Easy person mush go into a rank at the age 13 and may retire at the age 60, unless they have some kind of disorder preventing them from helping. They also have the option of being elected as one of the next rulers if they are ranked high enough. The different ways you are rankle are: novice, soldier, captain, general, and elite. The elette are usually the only people elected, but there are only a few.
Yeah so I lore dumped…if any of that made since, then great! If it didn’t, feel free to ask me further about it. Or don’t. Anyway, here are some sketches of characters and stuff.
This is the basic uniform for empirical soldier and the character designs for the webcomic.

Your story is so good! Loved reading it and loved the worldbuilding in it! If you're okay with a few asks, what are the Taur? How did they and humans come to learn of each other's existence? And what can we expect in Mel and Eve's future?
wow! thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked it so much and of course you can always send me any asks you have. I'm always curious about what people think of my writing, so asking about it it will make me super happy
Now onto your actual questions! The Monotaur (usually shortened to Taur) are a race of giants. They are characterized by their knife-like ears, ruby-red eyes, and pronounced canines compared to humans. When they are born their hair is snow white, but over time turns a lustrous silver. They used their sharp claws and teeth to dominate the other large animals of their world, quickly becoming top predators. They sometimes have trouble resisting their heightened instincts, a problem that was especially prominent when humans showed up. Even still to this day, many humans have the stereotype that Taurs enjoy eating humans, Eve shares this stereotype.Â
In general, Taurs stand between 80-90 feet tall. In order from shortest to tallest of the characters so far, Claire is 80ft tall Melody is 83, Alex is 84, and Chima is 86. Male Taurs usually stand a good 5 feet taller than their female counterparts.
Around 300 years ago humans emerged from the sky in spaceships. while it is unknown what their original plan was when they stumbled upon the Taur When they finally landed, it quickly became obvious that this planet was not meant for people their size. Though they tried to colonize the new planet, they quickly encountered the worlds top predator, the Monotaur. Even with their advanced technology, the war was over within six months, and the Taur government forced the remaining humans onto a small designated land heavily monitored by their forces.
Following the war human society was decimated. Taurs enforced their language to be taught, as well they erased much of human history from their teachings. They also suffered greatly economically from the war, many small towns are self-governing or even run by the mafia since Humanity lacks the funding for a more centralized police force to protect themselves Though humans are not allowed to traverse into Taur lands, many take the risk anyways because of the horrible living conditions in the designated zones, this is what Eve’s parents did.
As for Melody and Eve’s future, I think the next step for them is getting Chima on the same page as Melody when it comes to humans, or at the very least with Eve. Chima has a bad history with humans, and combine with the fact that she thought that Eve had stolen something precious from Melody and caused her to fall into depression, she flipped out the last time she saw Eve. Getting Chima to understand Melody's perspective on Eve is something she will definitely want to do quickly lest she risk Chima causing another situation like the one with the jar… or worse.
Thanks so much for the ask! Sorry for its length, I had a lot to say about all those questions you asked that I had been waiting to get out of my system for a while now. If you have any more questions or comments, feel free to ask away, thanks!
