So I recently started reading Pariah by Dan Abnett. I was expecting the same stuff I was getting from Eisenhorn by him (not bad, standard grum-dank (typo, keeping it) 40k with super skilled person who's special for reasons[tm]) and for the most part, yeah that's what I've gotten so far.
But it led (as they always do) to a rabbit hole of deeper lore examination because "Wait, the fuck is a blank person? Psyker-null?? THEIR MERE PRESENCE CAN KILL PSYKERS AND MAKE DEMONS NOPE THE FUCK OUT OF THE MATERIAL????!!"
Needless to say, kickass and super special sure-sure. But also the feel of being :painfully: normal to everyone and the way this character is being written is hitting the 'possibly autistic coded' part of my literary analysis brain. I'm actually enjoying this a fair bit. Excited to read more. Maybe this'll even encourage me to revisit other 40k books that aren't from a Necrontyr perspective for once.
