Mugwort & Juniper Gruit
As always happens I wish I'd done a full brew of my small batch Sahti inspired Mugwort Gruit, and it tastes fantastic. Thick and smooth, wonderfully aromatic from the Mugwort which pairs perfectly with all the Oats and Wheat, sweet honey notes and juniper just lift it to that next level. I was aiming towards something like Mugwort tea with honey as the base and all the elements really came together here. I'll have to put the recipe up once I've scaled it to 21L. It wasn't the most efficient use of grain at 23.2% Rolled Oats, 16.5% Pale Wheat, 12.2% Toasted Malted Oats, 11.6% Torrified Wheat, 11% Floor Malted Pilsner, 9.3% Cara Gold, 8.1% Golden Promise and 8.1% Honey, but that doesn't matter to get the right malty base to the Gruit. Now to see if there's enough Mugwort in there to bring on some mystical dreams.

요즘 나의 아침 🍌🍎
Jopen’s Koyt Gruit on tap at the brewery in Haarlem. A 4 of 4. Lots of really nice spice and earthy qualities to this. The nose is mostly spice with lots of sweet maltiness behind it. More dark fruit-like notes in the body and some complexity to the herbs as this warms. A touch of tartness mid-body helps cut all the sweetness, and the spices linger into the finish. Not ordinary, but excellent.
Fun Fact
A beer brewed without hops is called a “grut” or “gruit”. Pronounced like the Marvel character.
