I saw a friend of mine make a post on fb about the battle of the beanfields recently, its 41st anniversary or something. The most interesting part of it for me, is that the violence faced by the new age travellers of the beanfield convoy is just the same as the violence faced by gypsy-roma-traveller communities every day since they first arrived to the islands centuries ago. Well, at least after they stopped executing them on sight.
The "battle" of the beanfields is only particularly shocking, because most of the people attacked were only recently itinerant white hippies. They likely didn't expect to receive treatment as shocking as they did from the state. And yet.
I've never seen that friend of mine post about GRT History month, or GRT rights and advocacy. I've lapsed recently too, sure, but I'd never actually heart of the battle of the beanfields before I saw their post. I've read a lot about systemic anti-GRT racism, discrimination and oppression though.
