What causes pinholes in the shower grout?Pinholes in shower grout are small gaps, cracks, or holes that appear in the grout. These pinholes are usually caused by poor application techniques, such as not using enough grout, wiping the grout to early or using too much water when mixing the grout. The wrong type of grout mix can result in the grout drying out and shrinking, leading to the appearance of pinholes.Moisture can also be a cause, as water can penetrate the grout and cause it to wear down. Additionally, if the grout wasn't installed properly, the seal between the grout and the tiles may break down, causing pinholes to form. How do you fix the pinholes in your shower grout?Fixing pinholes in shower grout can be quick and simple with the right materials and a bit of elbow grease. To do so, you'll need to grab some grout from your local home depot or tile store. If you have a color other than white, hopefully you know the brand and color. Here is what you will need:GroutUtility KnifeGrout SpongeGrout Float (not needed for just pinholes)- First, scrap away any loose particles or dirt from the grout using a stiff-bristled toothbrush. We also recommend using a utility knife to "widen" the hole slightly. Doing this will also check if any grout around the pinhole is loose.- Be sure to remove all the grout particles and dust before applying the new grout.- Next, mix up your grout according to the product's instructions or open the container of you purchased a premixed grout. Use your finger to push the grout into the pinholes. A grout float is not needed unless the areas you are filling in are wider that just a hole.- Allow the grout to sit for 10 minutes and then clean off the excess with a damp grout sponge. Let it cure for 24 hours. (It's important to wipe all excess grout off the tiles before it fully cures.) Once dry, you should have a smooth, seamless grout surface without any pinhole damage.Having problems with shower pinholes and want to avoid expensive repairs?
