I really need to do a long write up on the process of building a “bio-remediation pond” (wetlands, it’s a wetlands. We just can’t call it one because of REASONS) on campus. In the meantime enjoy two absurdly gorgeous pictures of the end-product, about a year after scraped ground.  It’s not as pretty right now at the close of summer when everything is tired from the heat, but it’s still a project I’m super proud of and would encourage all institutions to look into. 

Back to plant type things: check out this rose crown gall I found yesterday! It’s caused by a bacteria that is attracted to new wounds, such as a pruning cut, and we have a small patch of drift roses absolutely infested with these tumors. They don’t look like they’re damaging the plant yet, but I’ll have to keep an eye on them.  Remember to clean your pruners every now and then!

New installation on campus. The purpose was to fix a dangerous grade drop so we could remove the handrail by the sidewalk, but why not made it pretty while you're at it.
