        paired together , for better or for worse ( probably for worse , he’s sure he’ll accidentally upset the other in some way ) , yuuga would try to take something away from this experience. 

        hopefully it wouldn’t be a bruise , but we’ll see how this afternoon goes.

masaru LOVED being a dad. it’s like he was made for it; it is his purpose in life. he happily doted on mitsuki the entire time she was pregnant ( and of course any other time ). he cried the day of katsuki’s birth. holding his son in his arms is his happiest memory. he vowed to protect his son, to love him with every ounce of his being, to cherish him, to teach him. 

the first few years of katsuki’s life went well – the family was HAPPY. katsuki was a curious little boy, and they dressed him up and took pictures of him – and did everything for him. masaru would work from home most days to be with his son, just so joyful to be around him. 

it was… after katsuki’s quirk awakened that things got DIFFICULT.

katsuki, a naturally curious boy, had no idea how to control his quirk and ended up burning his parents unintentionally. it became STRESSFUL to deal with all of the explosions, and it cost them a lot of money around the house. not only that, but their care had given katsuki a little complex – to think he could do ANYTHING without consequence. ( masaru couldn’t help it; that boy is everything to him. ) 

and then… that fateful night.

already, mitsuki found the stress to be cumbersome, and masaru found himself picking up the pieces. between caring for katsuki and comforting mitsuki, he constantly felt exhausted, burnt out, but he hid all of his discomfort with a smile. he wouldn’t allow anything to trigger him. it’s late, past katsuki’s bedtime, and he’s fought them both every time they try to make him go to bed. mitsuki finally rolled her eyes and went off to their bedroom, leaving masaru alone to deal with the little devil. 

“katsuki,” masaru says softly, kneeling to his level. “katsu-chan, do you want to go to bed?”

“ NO !! ” he says with a giggle, beaming up at his dad. but he can feel the discomfort coming off his father, and his expression changes.

“now, katsuki – please. it’s time for bed.”

“i don’t want to!” katsuki responds, indignant. he hugs his ALL MIGHT figurine close. 

“katsuki,” masaru tries so hard to sound parental, but he’s too SOFT to discipline his son. he gently takes katsuki’s arm, who gives a tug. “i’m going to bring you to bed – you can still play with all might there –”

“ NO !! LET ME GO !! “ katsuki yanks his arm hard, and masaru lets him go – eyes wide. and that’s when katsuki loses it. he’s starts SHOUTING and SCREAMING at masaru, face red, eyes teary. “ I DON’T WANNA GO !! ”

“k–katsuki,” masaru has no idea what to do, but he knows he needs to calm his son down. he hears the bedroom door SLAM shut – mitsuki wants no part of this. “shh, it’s okay, papa is here – we can go together – it’s okay – “ and he reaches to pull his son into his arms. 

it’s a mistake. katsuki screams and puts his hands on his father’s chest. 

masaru doesn’t really remember what happens next. everything is fuzzy. there’s a loud BOOM BOOM !! and there’s a blinding pain in his chest, his shirt has been burned open – he hits the ground hard. he barely hears the door open, and mitsuki is suddenly screaming – and he feels so much BURNING PAIN – 

katsuki doesn’t understand, not really. masaru doesn’t blame his son, not at all. he’s stuck in the hospital for days with third-degree burns. he felt incredibly embarrassed and ashamed. no… he doesn’t blame katsuki for what happened. mitsuki looks sullen beside him, and she says something mean under her breath about their son. his happy family dissipates in front of his eyes… and the next time he sees katsuki ( because he doesn’t want katsuki to see him like that at the hospital ) he flinches. 

masaru swallows it down and vows to learn how to help his son for the next time. he will be the FATHER katsuki needs… he won’t fail him… he won’t.

“ That it seems. ”   lhe HATED everything about this. He hated his face, he hated his attitude, he HATED his quirk, he hated his fuckin’ scarf and he hated his face. Oh god, he wanted to punch it.

          this   was   going   to   be   --   a   FRUITLESS   venture,   wasn’t   it   ?   especially   with   the   look   the   other   was   throwing   in   his   direction.   hands   fold,   &   he   stares   right   back.   blank   face   matching   the   almost   constantly   rage   filled   one.
