Grimmjow set the library card on Ulquiorra's desk. Perhaps he should have left a note too but he guessed Ulquiorra would recognise the significance of this gesture. He always more intelligent than he gave him credit for, or wanted to. With a quiet smirk he walked away. "Goodbye, Ulquiorra. Thanks - for everythin'."
Sometime later, Ulquiorra returned to his home and immediately realised there had been a presence there in his absence, sharpened senses pickinging up a distinctly feline smell that could only ever have belonged to one man. Â
Walking further into the partially renovated warehouse the former Espada looked around for his guest but found no one in sight, the scent continuing to fade as the book bag that was slung over his shoulder was tossed onto the couch, books of a reading level far below his own spilling out of the opening.Â
Following the scent to where it remained the strongest, Ulquiorra found himself in the small area he had set aside as a small personal library and noticed something on his desk that should not have been there. A small laminated card with a name that did not belong to him.Â
Picking up the card the raven stared at it for several moments, trying to deny what he knew that it meant, trying to delude himself of the truth that kept smacking him in the face with its unpleasant and ugly realisation.Â
Holding the card closely Ulquiorra left the area and returned to the couch and the childrens books, stacking them neatly before him, the foreign card resting atop the pile along with his own as if that small closeness would somehow make the situation better.Â
He didn’t need books, study or experience to tell him what was going on, why he couldn’t take his eyes off the left behind card. He now knew it with 100% certainty.Â
This is what sadness feels like.
