The music was louder through the sound system than it was normally. Everyone else had gone home from the office about an hour before, and though Adeline was going home soon she’d stayed there to be open for an hour and a half longer than most of her compatriots had gone home. She felt it was useful for those who needed later appointments.
Though it wasn’t her job, Adeline was tidying up, dancing around in the waiting room — really just a shuffle back and forth and a spin every now and again — singing softly beneath her breath; she fully expected to be alone for the last twenty minutes of her time there so she hadn’t bothered to lock the door that led into the office, and when the chime binged softly, just beneath the beat of the music, she lifted her head and turned, smiling brightly, “I’m so sorry, usually I’m not this unprofessional...~”
