fun (or maybe not so fun) facts about grieb!
all grieb births are performed via c-section. their heads have evolved to be too large and their hips have become too narrow for natural births
grieb aren’t really mammalian and don’t nurse their young, they’re usually well developed enough at birth to consume purées almost immediately
the home system of the grieb has been so thoroughly terraformed that not even a fully natural moon is left. the only celestial bodies untouched is their single gas giant and the star that serves as their sun
grieb saucer ships are some of the most sought after in the galaxy, but are extremely expensive to obtain and very hard to manage without a crew of grieb on board. think of grieb technology like Apple. the only reason you can’t drive it or repair it yourself is because it’s better for their empire if charge for that instead.
there are four sections of the grieb caste system. the ruling caste, generally notable for their height (the average grieb is close to around 5ft tall, but members of the ruling caste are closer to 6ft and over). the wealthy caste, notable for the fact certain careers are reserved for these caste members (scientists, philosophers, mathematics, and all other scholarly pursuits in general). then there’s the working caste, who are generally left with all the much less desirable career choices (maintenance, construction, most other physical or dirty jobs). finally, the lowest caste, which consists of rebels, prisoners, and all other outcasts (as deemed by the ruling and wealthy castes).
members of the lowest caste CAN have manual labor jobs similar to the working caste, but finding employment is harder due to their status.
despite being part of the infinity point federation, the corruption of the grieb upper classes is something they are very good at concealing. they manage damaging strip-mining operations all around the galaxy that they cleverly manage using hirees of other species with modest forms of technology to hide how wide their reach actually is
although the caste system is rigid, a grieb’s physical appearance may earn them favor from those above them. taller grieb with mostly gray skin resemble the ruling caste, and on occasion may be granted access to resources usually reserved for grieb in higher castes.
grieb have five opposable fingers and toes on each hand and foot, but three of these digits are in the center and the two on the sides are both positioned like thumbs. one of the things that makes their ships hard to pilot for those outside their species are because of the foot controls that require basically another set of hands on your feet
art (and graffiti) are a very strong symbol of grieb rebellion, since artistic pursuits are viewed as wastes of time and resources by the ruling and upper castes
