Graywing (COTC)
some greywing (cotc) in light of recent events a la @warriorcatsofficialfacts posts
I wish warriors readers could accept that you can be a sweet person but still do shitty things and be a piece of shit and still do sweet things. (For legal reasons I'm obviously talking about characters from the saga here)
The saga has been good for writing morally grey characters and that's a part of why I still enjoy it now at 26. Like Firestar having trauma reactions seeing bramblekit but actively acting on it to not harm an innocent one and still messing up, it was really my favorite part from the first arc.
Greywing and Clearsky are another good exemple of this and dawn of the clan is, to me, the most interesting and well written arc of the saga mostly thanks to their relationship. Greywing was a good father and a very sweet character but he was also an asshole with a victim of abuse seeking help. Clearsky was a colonialist piece of shit through the whole arc, but has some really interesting development and redemption at the end (I must reread it).
Except for rare exceptions such as Darktail or Tigerstar, all characters are morally grey. The books allow reader to question and condemn actions from beloved characters, which is for me an healthy posture and a good thing to teach to kids.
A last exemple of that is Bluestar, who was adored by Firestar at first sight but yet condemn when she started being cruel with her clanmates. This is so precious to teach to young readers : if someone you love is acting trash you have to step back and question their behavior, even if it's hard.
