Does the gremlin have tips on learning anatomy/lighting/color theory, etc? ๐๐๐
Ohh my god I am so sorry that it took me ages to see you had sent me an ask! I have been on vacation and been just sporadically checking in on my socials while away, and I donโt know how I missed this! I apologise!
But yes I do have some tips!
When it comes to anatomy, it all comes down to practice at the end of the day, understanding how the human body works, and what shapes the body consists of. When I was younger I did take a course for anatomy for artists, and I even bought a book back then that went through the human anatomy, bone by bone, muscle by muscle. Itโs like a 5kg bible that I still use today if I get stuck. In the same course there was colour theory and the relationship between light and shadow. I did this courseโฆ 15 years ago or so? Canโt remember precisely.
However I did do a refresher course on Proko earlier this spring on head construction fundamentals and perspective, dynamic posing and fundamentals in digital painting. And I recommend it from the bottom of my heart. It was excellent, they give you tasks and practices and it is all online with video lessons. I loved every minute of it.
Another thing I do is that I use a lot of references in my art, and that can be all from what I find online, take pictures of things that can be helpful (I photograph my hands a lot for example to understand better how they work lol) and I am not afraid to ask for candid feedback from people I have a trusting relationship with, especially as I require honesty in order to improve.
Feedback and pointers in general I would say is one of the best tools for me at least, nothing better to have someone look at your work, give feedback on how to improve whatever you are working on. Because I definitely do suffer a lot after many hours on the same piece that I feel like Iโm going blind? ๐
And if course!! Flip the canvas!! That way you will see immediately if something looks wrong or doesnโt work, and you can correct it. I flip my canvas a billion times when I work on a piece that I get dizzy.
Anyway, decided to include some of the practices from the Proko course I did, mind you, all of them were done on a time limit and following the course so they are veeery rough. Did the course inโฆ February? I think. Canโt remember.
Anyway I hope this helps!!
