Above The Timberline!
I fell in love with Greg Manchess’ work when first seeing it in the December 1994 issue of National Geographic.
Illustration of the CSS Alabama from the Dec. 4th edition of National Geographic
Since, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to meet and study with Greg at the Illustration Master Class in Massachusetts and online via the Smart(er) Art School.
Greg Manchess is a modern master - and he has created an Illustrated Novel, Above the Timberline which was released this October. I am enjoying reading it right now. (I waited to receive the book as I wanted to obtain one with a Greg Manchess sketch - while they last, books with a sketch are available from Stuart Ng books ).
Original sketch included in the book
Words can’t adequately describe the beauty of the book - so I took a few pictures:
Greg completed more than 120 paintings over a period of about 11 months - every page is an illustration. He discussed the process of creating the book in a series of posts on the Muddy Colors Blogspot.
And everyone should pick up a copy!
