it didn't matter , really , what she wanted , nothing could ever come from wanting ( oh , how she'd wanted ) . they worked together & he had a wonderful girlfriend & she'd actively tried to date his best friend & so many awful things happened in between that there just hadn't been a right time . she'd been a little grateful for the interference . like , maybe , the universe knew that she couldn't be good for him , even as he worked tirelessly to be good for her & even better for the people she loved the most . but when all was said & done , when she was leaving the bau & heartbroken that she was leaving the bau but so , so grateful for the opportunity to change the world in a different way , when her guard was down & he asked what she'd wanted him to ask for so long - she didn't hesitate to say yes . because maybe there was a chance . maybe , in that new exciting future , she could deserve him & all his goodness & his darkness too . maybe , there was a world where she could accept the all encompassing love that she knew , in her bones , he would've offered her .

it had been a mistake , really . the closer they got to the date the more glaringly obvious it became . they wouldn't work . she would ruin him , keeping him at arms length because losing him would ruin her & she knew that she wouldn't be strong enough . she'd never been good at losing people ( or almost losing people ) , but it had kept happening anyway . her parents , her brothers , gideon , stephen , derek , hotch & it had gotten to a point where she had kept a list . so, she had made up reasons , should he have asked . the job would keep him away & she wouldn't be able to handle it if something happened to him & she wasn't there to keep him safe . it was selfish ( she was selfish ) but she couldn't tether herself to him - to the team like that anymore . she couldn't be worried that the person she loves wouldn't come home . which is why she decided for them . he would be better off with someone else , someone who hadn't kept him at an arms length for years . someone who wouldn't be afraid of all that love that she knows he'd offer , the love she could already see in his beautiful eyes . the love she was terrified he saw reflected in hers .

they went on a date . it hadn't worked . she had made sure it hadn't worked & she would never tell anyone , not jj , not emily , not tara that it had taken everything in her to make sure that it hadn't worked . that it had broken her heart to pretend that she hadn't been all in the second they sat down in that empty restaurant before the world shut down .

he had looked at her the same , two years later , showing up on her doorstep like no time had passed . like they weren't different . & if there was a sharp pain in her chest at how handsome he looked in her space , like he belonged amongst her colorful walls & cookies & trinkets , she had ignored it . & if she could see out of the corner of her eye when she'd tried to sneak a peek at him that he was already watching her with that look on his face like he still knew her & still could love her , she ignored it . because her family needed her . because she had decided for them both a long time ago .

Watching the Italian version of CME I got an idea, or better, I had an epiphany. The sequence of events about Luke/Penelope/Tyler-Garvez-Greencia is wrong.

Let me explain.

The chronological order is:

16x3- Luke catches the suspect, Tyler Green, with the ability he learned when he was with Fugitive team.

The team understands Tyler is not a killer. Penelope discovers Green is her informant.

16x4- Penelope tries to make Tyler cooperate. She fails.

Luke pushes her to tell Emily about her idea, trying cognitive interview. He supports her idea as it was his own.

When Emily asks if Penelope can try to talk again with Green, he replies in her place "yes, the answer is yes".

Penelope convinces Tyler to try the cognitive interview.

Luke tries the cognitive interview with Green. He is very good. Penelope and Emily are watching. It works, Tyler remembers important details about last day he saw his sister.

16x5- Penelope and Tyler can barely stand each other.

Rossi suggest Tyler to make something to convince Penelope work again with him. He gives her a real kitten.

Meanwhile, Luke and JJ blowing up.

16x6- Penelope is so worried for Luke, after they are able to talk with JJ. She says she want to take back all the mean things she said (about Luke). They discover Tyler' sister DNA in the bunker; Penelope informs him.

After this, she goes to Tyler the day they released him. He refuses her help. Luke and JJ are back: Penelope shows her happiness with a hug.

They call Penelope: she has to get Tyler, because he had a fight with a guy that saw him in the news; she takes him to her apartment. They have a deep chat about grief. Tyler tries to kiss her, she runs away and says they should take a walk. She has an idea about the case and leaves him, then turns and kisses him. [Don't look at next pic if you have weak heart; for me is just a science fact]

Penelope runs to the BAU and tells them what she thinks. Luke objects that Tyler sister is not in the pattern, but she explains with other details. Luke looks at her in a weird way. Maybe he thinks/understands she could have been with Tyler.

But the right sequence it should be:

Luke discovers about Tyler and Penelope kiss

-> Luke jumps him

JJ and Luke risk to blow up. Penelope is fucking scared.

[Penelope understands he has still feelings for her and she too, then kisses (Luke) and hugs him, alone (sorry, JJ)]

Okay, just a stupid thought, but seeing Luke jumping on Tyler, knowing that he is gonna helping him and pushing Pen to interact with his reval... If he only knew... he would have said "Ok, great idea, Penelope. I will talk to Prentiss. You can stay in your office, don't worry. You and Tyler are just incompatible. He will never open himself with you".
