Hi! I'm going to be a freshman at MICA in the fall and I was wondering if you had any tips? I'm really nervous cause Baltimore is really far from home and I don't really know what to expect at an art school. Thanks! I hope your senior year went well!
I think there are alot of preconceived notions about art school being really crazy, but personally I don’t think that’s true. It’s just a different type of normal. I’m not sure where you’re from, but the majority of students are from different states (or even out of the country) so maybe you’ll be able to make connections with people from your state. The MICA community is really welcoming and you'll be around alot of talented, inspiring peers. Freshman year is pretty tough with adjusting to a new place, the work load, and starting off without really knowing anyone, but if it makes you feel better, most of the freshman are in your same position. Everyone is at a different place when they start, I think it’s important not to compare yourself and make the most of your time. Lastly don’t take critiques personally and be open to what your teachers and peers say during crit. Good luck with your freshman year!
