“Who could have ever found a fake snake toy and thrown it in the middle of the mess hall? That’s so rude and definitely not me. I have an alibi.... Do you?” Percy smirked smugly, oh so obviously the culprit making all the children scream and evacuate the dining area that evening. He’d go down denying.
“Okay, okay.  Nobody panic, but we seem to be having a hairband emergency - Nancy has lost one, and she can’t remember seeing it after breakfast.  Has anyone happened to come across one?!”
“Not to alarm anyone,” she started nonchalantly, chewing her lip as she paused, “I mean, I’m sure this is normal for most of you by now,  but I feel like I’ve earned a twenty-four hour grace period for this kind of shit.” Cautiously eyeing her surroundings to make sure there were no precious little minds to corrupt with her swearing in the vicinity, Jessa dropped her duffel bags to the knotted wooden floor. “But, yeah, as I was saying, it’s been a long day. We’re talking two flights and a Greyhound with no AC long. And there is a frog in the shower.”Â
She paused again, this time clearing her throat. “I repeat, there is a very big fucking frog in the shower. And if someone could maybe help the poor little bastard find his way back into the woods so I can rinse off twelve hour’s-worth of recycled air, well,” the girl’s eyes flitted to the ground, then up again. “That would be frickin’ dandy.”
Percy gathered a couple of his fellow counselors, talking them into putting on a performance. There was a dude with a guitar on one of the logs near the fire, and, with a nod from Percy, he grinned and changed up the tune to an old familiar. As the tune started, Percy and two other guys marched into the main circle of people, wearing spandex and bright colors and sweat bands and began to sing, or rather Percy started to rap. That’s right. It was Super Bass by the great Nicki Minaj. The show was crazy and his rapping ability was a little choppy in the middle, but he finished strong. Once they were done, Percy high fived the other counselors and gave a deep bow before heading to the side to grab a bottle of water. Smirking, he shrugged at the other counselor and winked. “It’s all in the hips.”

Devie was helping some of the younger kids roast their hot dogs, because they got bored too quickly and ended up leaving their sticks in the fire, which was a) a tripping hazard and b) left them with a bunch of charred hot dogs that no one wanted to eat, which was such a waste.  Although, she only had so many hands, and could only roast so many wieners.  “Hey!”  She called to the nearest counselor, “Would you mind lending me a hand?  Literally.”  She giggled at her own lame joke, and held one of the roasting sticks out.
Percy groaned as he started to actually feel sleepy. He knew that taking a two hour nap wouldn’t help him for the night shift. Grabbing a pool floatie that allowed him to lie down, the brunette grabbed his sunglasses and headed for the lake, aiming for a relaxing nap for a few hours. There was a group of kids in towards the edges of the lake, so he jumped in, making a dramatic splash before swimming a little further away and climbing on his floatie. He pointed to the group’s counselors and arched a brow. “I’m sleeping. Don’t bother me.”
Admittedly, it wasn’t ideal for Matthew’s first, official week to be stuck within a hot kitchen wearing a hairnet making what seemed like endless tator tots and garlic bread, but, Matthew told himself that he was going to enter the job like he entered basically any other challenge in his life -- completely owning it. However, with oatmeal dripping from the ceiling (Matthew wasn’t even sure he wanted to ask), he found himself very, very unimpressed as he held a bucket, trying to catch the fallen droplets since that was the best he could do at that time. His brain was still racking ideas on how he was going to reach a fifteen feet ceiling.
