So, this hasnāt happened in a while...Iām actually in between books! I finished Ghost almost two weeks ago, and I just finished Jane Eyre last night! So, since I usually have a physical book and an ebook going at the same time, Iād like to introduce you to my next two books. š The next physical book I will be reading is āChildren of Blood and Boneā by Tomi Adeyemi. It is a fantasy novel that draws inspiration from all different sources, but is also greatly influenced by West African mythology and Yoruba culture (the author is Nigerian-American and her mother helped her with aspects of the novel using the Yoruba language). This book was the selection for The Tonight Showās 2018 summer reading. Its sequel, āChildren of Virtue and Vengeanceā, is scheduled to be released in December. (This series is a planned trilogy.) And...for the first time in a long time, my edition is hardcover! (I donāt think it was out in paperback yet when I bought it back in April.) š My ebook read is āThe Color Purpleā by Alice Walker. This novel won the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and is regarded as a classic of both feminist and African-American literature. It came in at number 27 in PBSā #greatamericanread and is the highest-ranking book on the list by an author of color. #womenauthors #womenauthorsofcolor #womenprotagonists #womenprotagonistsofcolor #tomiadeyemi #alicewalker #fantasynovels #epistolarynovel #pulitzerprizewinner #nationalbookaward #newyorktimesbestsellers https://www.instagram.com/p/B2uFrSNp12G/?igshid=18ehxnxvy4oa8
I havenāt finished #allthelightwecannotsee just yet, but I only have about 30 pages and the last two parts to read, so I feel ready to properly introduce my next read, āThe Book Thiefā by Markus Zusak. This novel was published in 2005 and eventually became a bestseller, remaining on the New York Times Bestseller list for ten years. It finished at number 14 on PBSā #greatamericanread list and is one of just two novels (not counting series) in the Top 20 of that list that was published in the 21st Century (the other being The Help by Kathryn Stockett, which I have in ebook form and plan to eventually read). It is set around World War II, and is the second consecutive novel Iām reading set primarily in that time period. Iāve heard a lot of good reviews on this book, and I hope those reviews pay off when I read it. #readersofinstagram #bookstagram #currentlyreading #historicalfiction #onmyreadinglist https://www.instagram.com/snowlessknitter/p/BxX9YmRJuKg/?igshid=1ifau35w257ss
Well, when I go to my local Walmart Supercenter to go grocery shopping (not as often these days), I canāt resist a trip to the book section (which has sadly gotten smaller in the last few months). I managed to find these two gems: āGhostā by Jason Reynolds, which finished at number 97 on PBSā #greatamericanread list, and āChildren of Blood and Boneā by Tomi Adeyemi, which Iāve heard a lot of good reviews about. I havenāt ventured as much into fantasy apart from the Harry Potter novels, but Iām ready to dive in once its turn comes up! #books #bookstagram #ifitlooksgoodreadit #readersofinstagram https://www.instagram.com/snowlessknitter/p/BvuINrhl__b/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=xnzah2v7ta5t

Youāll notice the unusual background, but Iām traveling today (and tomorrow) for work. So I brought a book (or two! š) with me so I could take some photos and this bed sheet is perfect. . . Todayās prompt for reading rivalry was a book from the Great American Reads List! Have you read any of them? I havenāt read as many as Iād like - I think only like 30 something out of 100. Eek! This is on my list this month though: The Book Thief. Also important to read given the sad amount of Anti-Semitism occurring in the US. . . #bookthief #rryouknowyouwannabe #readingrivalry #greatamericanread #igreads #holocaustbook #yalit #bookflatlay #bookcover #inlumoslibertas #bookfeaturepage #booktravellife https://www.instagram.com/p/Bp0hAEKn2Vi/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1pixql5f0cb75

'The Great American Read' on PBS wraps up by announcing that Harper Lee's Southern classic 'To Kill a Mockingbird' is 'America's best-loved novel.'
FYI, Outlander was #2. Wow.
