You’ve all had Ribolla Gialla from Napa Valley, right? Okay, maybe not all of you. If you’re looking for something other than Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc, this is your wine! Grassi Winery is one of the few producers making wine from this Northern Italian grape. Beautiful deep yellow color, bold texture, flavor of lemon, apple, and more than a hint of salinity and the sea. We enjoyed a 2016 which is drinking beautifully and showing no signs of age. The wine paired perfectly with John’s amazing meal - hot smoked salmon, shrimp, and roasted potatoes. Everything was fantastic but the smoked salmon simply divine. Moist and tender with just the right amount of smokiness. A beautiful 2016 Napa Cab from Grassi Wines. Combine the excellent winemaking of this small family winery with the bounty of the 2016 vintage and you have a powerhouse Cabernet Sauvignon. Bursting with fruit, spice, earth and tannin ... incredible texture, silky and smooth ... ready to drink but surely age-worthy as well. I should let the ‘16s settle a bit but I didn’t feel like it. A great day spent in Napa Valley yesterday! We were able to catch up with our friend Cassandra Grassi from Grassi Wines and, of course, taste some of their latest vintages. If you haven’t had Grassi wines you should seek them out. This family winery is making some of the best wines in Napa with real elegance and respect for varietals and terroir.————————————————- We started with their 2017 Ribolla Gialla, always a hit and a nice break from the Sauv Blanc that so many places pour. This Ribolla is a luscious white wine with great body and light golden color. If it’s good enough for the French Laundry ... ———————————————— For the reds we had a new one (for us) - a 2011 Cabernet Franc that is still flexing its muscles and will easily still be drinkable in 2025. We also had their 2015 Sangiovese and 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon.
