here's the messy quali gaps chart with everybody, handled as % of pole time. please recall that any car with best lap slower than 107% of the pole time must petition the stewards to be allowed to race
here are the teammate h2hs - please be mindful of the scales as they are not all normalized, they're scaled to fit
the McLaren is getting faster. they aren't miraculously developing themselves out of a hole like in 2023, but it's looking like a close second fastest. the changes seem to suit lando a bit better than oscar.
the scale on this graph is itty bitty 'cause they're so close together!
the ferrari is better than it looked in melbourne, but they haven't found as much as mclaren. the cars are about as close as the mclarens, though. we've seen the cars pairing off by team in the results table a lot.
i don't have graphs to back this up, but by jove this looks like the closest a teammate has been to max in a long long time.
the amr26 is butt and it isn't getting better.
the willy is not so butt but it might be falling back.
now THIS is really interesting. the vcarb doesn't look so shit, but liam is incredibly consistent in it, and arvid is jumping around like he's trying stuff out and learning.
the haas also maybe not so butt the haas also maybe falling back.
audi again has an older super consistent driver and a younger one with glimmers of promise (we don't hold brake fires against people, probably) - without car trouble, theyre 2-2 in the h2h.
there have been much worse alpines in recent memory. it looks better than it did in melbourne!
i would take a consistently slow car over uhhhh aston. maybe only over aston.
stats update after interlagos
george out
next round is the first time max is actually at risk of being eliminated: if he loses more than 9 points to lando in las vegas he will be out of contention
the two leaders are still separated by less than 1 race win of points
i am dejected and miserable and hopeless
anyway here's a comparison of the pole times in the first 3(ish, thanks covid in the 2021 season) races of the season in the years before and after the last three regulation changes.
the cars now are slower than in 2025, but by a non-alarming amount, especially given the MUCH LARGER drop-off the last time the PU rules changed like this.
no pretty colors right now but here's how the teams' point shares are looking. first driver listed in the long team name is the one ahead in standings; teams sorted descending by closeness in %.
the mclarens are closest again. they were closest for most of 2025 as well.

we are trending down in total cars completing a session 😬😬
also the locks calculator is still here but it's not very interesting right now [see highlighted]. last year the first drivers were mathematically eliminated around halfway through the season (that makes sense) so this table probably won't reappear until september.
