Curls of Smoke (update)
I’ve written exactly 3,000 words today, and Curls of Smoke is now over 112,000 words long. Celebratory excerpt (but, oh dear, I’ve made myself really sad right before a lecture)...
Granny Fleet was already waiting for him in the front row of the pews. She looked round just as he and Joey approached, and her reddened eyes brightened a little. “Florian, dear, come and sit next to me,” she said, patting the space next to her. “Goodness me…” she said, as Florian sat down and squeezed her hand with a smile, “Don’t you look so much like your Dad?” Her voice thickened and she hurried a handkerchief out of her pocket, wiping her streaming eyes before the tears could fall and spoil her carefully-applied foundation.
