Noooooo! It's so hard to chooooooose....
I love these two soft women!!
Agnes was such a wonderful character! She was legitimately just out there, living her life in a city brimming with, like, apparently, just death and vigilantes and time traveling super-children all over everywhere, like a damn beta-test version of Gotham City. And she's just... just trying to do her best every day. She wants to believe in the good in the world and so she projects good into the world. Shes just happy to sit, observing her birds and making friends with other birdwatchers, quietly saving for her dream shop out in the country. And then love comes along! And its wonderful! And painful. but she wouldnt trade it. And Agnes and Hazel's little side story was the most hopeful little bit of the show, for me, too. Like, even when it ended it still felt like one of those sort of 'worth-all-the-trouble-for-knowing-you-at-all' type moments, you know? It made me feel all fuzzy inside and everything! The parts of me that aren't dead inside are all prone to hopeless romanticism. Romanticization? Whatever, I loved it ok? Shamelessly, and without remorse.
The thing about it is.... is it's Mom, ok? Like, she was the one person consistantly, tailor-made to love those kids during their awful, abusive, neglect-filled, affection-as-reward-for-compitition driven childhoods. The person who's happiness rested on their happiness, so she always tried to do what she could to make them happy. The person who loved them unconditionally, and who only ever let one (1) thing come between her and her children's well-being: that being her own programing. Which- if you take Diego's word for it (and I do) -she was actively trying to work around, to express her affection for her kids and I just- AAAAHHHHHHHHHDHEJZIKEDHHDJ. I HAVE SO MANY EMOTIONS ABOUT MOM. ALL OF THEM, ACTUALLY. I HAVE ALL THE EMOTIONS ABOUT MOM.
She is the one kind thing that Reginald Hargreeves ever did for his children, and he wasn't even in control of it. I doubt he even intended her to be as much of a good mom as she was. I have serious doubts she was created as anything other than a way for him to pawn of the actual responsibilities of taking care of the children he adopted because it got in the way of his true purpose of treating them like experiments. And she became so much more than that. She became the only true parent they had (*side-eying pogo with distrust*) it's another reason why I find Luthor to be...not to my taste. He just, discounted her as soon as it became iconvienient to love her. Like I've said before, he's got a lot to make up for if hes gonna be redeemed.
Grace is a shining beacon of light, ok? And if anyone tries to insinuate to me that Grace Hargreeves is just a robot, I will sue them in a Denny's parking lot at 2 am. I don't even really know how that would work, logistically speaking, but I'm doubling down on it because that's the kind of love and protection she deserves. only the best- only ever the best -for Robot Mom β‘.
