Developed alongside the legendary TZ750 production road racer, today's #YamahaOfYesterday 1973 YZR500 0W20 was Yamaha’s very first 500cc World Grand Prix factory prototype racer. The bike featured a 494cc, liquid-cooled, inline-four-cylinder, reed-valve-inducted, two-stroke engine, which was created by connecting two 250cc TD3 twin-cylinder engines together and adding liquid cooling to achieve maximum horsepower. The double-cradle frame was made of chromium molybdenum, and dual disc brakes in the front and a single disc brake in the rear handled the stopping duties. The 0W20 made its debut at the French Grand Prix in round one of the 1973 500cc World Championship, and the late, great Swedish rider Jarno Saarinen won the race.
