Arise, Brienne of Tarth, a Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Seriously though, this moment is so damn important, and touching of course (I mean, I cried so damn much)
But there's one moment in particular that some of you may not have noticed that is the most beautiful little touch.
When the question of why she isn't a knight arises, Brienne's response is instant: 'Women can't be knights'. At this point in time she has convinced herself that she does not need a knighthood, she doesn't need that recognition.
But when Jaime stands and offers to make her a knight, she looks as if she isn't sure whether to accept. But in this moment, possibly the most important moment of her life, she glances to one person, and one person only: Podrick Payne. Pod knows Brienne better than anyone, and looks to him for approval. In an unspoken conversation, this is his response:
He knows how important this is to her, how much she deserves this and communicates this in this one look.
This interaction reminds us of their relationship, the part that we don't necessarily see. So many people trust Brienne, Sansa in the same episode said she trusted her with her life. But who does Brienne trust? Who does she turn to? A lot of Brienne's journey is tied to Jaime and her feelings for him, but another important relationship in her life, that of her closest friend, gets much less recognition.
Congratulations Brienne, you deserve it more than anyone.
Also, can I quickly mention ho ADORABLE Tormund is when she officially is a knight?? He claps like a proud Mum β€οΈβ€οΈ
(also, shout-out to @harry-lloyds for sending me the Pod gif!)
