❝  THAT’S  A  VERY  KIND  WAY  TO  INVITE  ME  IN  .  i  didn’t  even  realize  you  were  throwing  a  party  tonight  .  ❞  sebastian  is  naturally  thrilled  to  see  his  friend  ,  and  anxious  to  play  catch  up  ,  but  the  reason  behind  his  visit  is  ,  unfortunately  ,  enough  to  hinder  the  joy  in  his  eyes  .  his  gaze  is  ominous  ,  brows  pulled  into  a  grimace  .  despite  everything  ,  despite  the  shine  of  bruce’s  outfit  and  the  music  that  wafts  from  the  party  within  wayne  manor  . . .  sebastian  arrives  with  fear  .  ❝  i’m  so  sorry  to  show  up  unannounced  and  uninvited  ,  bruce  ,  and  i  won’t  stay  long  — —  i  know  you  have  people  to  schmooze  and  people  to  flirt  with  ,  but  i  need  your  help  .  can  you  give  me  . . .  FIVE  MINUTES  ?  then  i’ll  be  out  of  your  hair  .  ❞  a  desperate  look  .  how  does  he  even  start  to  explain  what’s  going  on  ?  he’s  never  told  his  old  friend  about  his  hidden  profession  (  though  ,  in  all  honesty  ,  bruce  is  smart  enough  to  figure  it  out  on  his  own  ,  and  probably  already  knows  )  .  ❝  it’s  about  gotham  .  it’s  about  — —  A  CONTRACT  HIT  .  i  think  you  need  to  know  about  this  before  it  gets  out  of  hand  .  maybe  there’s  something  you  can  do  to  stop  it  .  ❞  a  glance  to  the  side  .  ❝  please  .  five  minutes  .  then  i’ll  let  you  get  back  to  the  party  .  I  PROMISE  .  ❞

totally exactly the same as how you left it this morning , B , with absolutely no renovations or irreparable damage done.

“   some   of   mine,   some   of   ⸺   ”   his   brain   is   still   foggy   from   the   shock   and   blood   loss.   he’s   still   not   sure   if   he   got   jumped   randomly   or   if   they   had   been   sent   by   that   damned   paramilitary   group.   either   way,   he   put   up   a   fight   and   lived   to   seen   another   day   .   .   .   with   a   heavy   blood   price.   “   some   of   not   mine.   ”

❝  YOU’RE  A  NIGHT  OWL  ,  TOO  ?  ❞  sebastian  stands  from  his  casual  lean  on  the  balcony  and  grins  over  at  his  friend  as  he  approaches  .  the  air  is  COOL  and  FRAGRANT  with  the  scent  of  rain  ,  but  it  somehow  feels  different  than  the  post-storm  atmosphere  in  london  .  there’s  something  heavier  about  gotham  .  always  has  been  .  ❝  i  guess  i’m  just  having  difficulties  with  the  time  change  ,  ❞  he  explains  to  bruce  as  he  approaches  ,  turning  back  around  to  lean  on  the  railing  again  .  ❝  couldn’t  sleep  .  so  here’s  to  the  INSOMNIACS  .  ❞  as  bruce  joins  him  ,  sebastian  gives  his  friend’s  shoulder  a  light  bump  in  greeting  .  ❝  thanks  for  letting  me  stay  with  you  while  i’m  visiting  from  across  the  pond  ,  by  the  way  .  that  guest  bed  is  LOVELY  .  alfred  put  me  in  the  best  goddamn  room  in  the  whole  building  ,  i  think  .  if  i  was  able  to  sleep  ,  i’d  be  absolutely  conked  out  by  now  .  ❞  he  lets  a  loose  laugh  tumble  from  his  mouth  before  he  turns  ,  looking  out  on  the  skyline  ,  the  world  so  hazy  from  a  just-finished  rain  .  after  a  few  minutes  of  quiet  ,  sebastian  breaks  the  silence  .  ❝  so  why  aren’t  you  sleeping  ?  everything  okay  with  you  ?  ❞  blue  eyes  trace  bruce’s  profile  ,  concern  seeping  from  his  gaze  .  ❝  you’ve  always  been  a  good  friend  to  me  ,  bruce  ,  and  i’m  ALWAYS  HERE  TO  RETURN  THE  FAVOR  .  i  hope  you  know  that  .  calls  across  the  ocean  might  be  complicated  ,  but  they  CAN  HAPPEN  .  when  you  need  a  friend  . . .  ❞  he  pats  bruce’s  arm  ,  expression  sincere  and  eyes  alight  with  sympathy  ,  ❝  i’m  here  to  help  .  ❞

SEBASTIAN  GAWKS  OPENLY  for  at  least  two  minutes  and  thirty  seconds  before  he  finally  blinks  back  into  a  normal  state  and  turns  to  look  at  bruce  .  ❝  are  you  —  showing  me  your  wine  collection  ?  ❞  is  his  first  guess  ,  brows  perked  up  ,  eyes  alight  and  heart  beating  a  little  faster  .  you’d  think  he’d  just  spotted  someone  attractive  across  the  room  ,  the  way  he’s  acting  . . .  but  no  .  IT’S  JUST  THE  WINE  .  ❝  this  is  exquisite  .  absolutely  TREMENDOUS  .  please  don’t  tell  me  you’re  giving  this  to  me  or  else  i  might  faint  .  IF  YOU  ARE  . . .  —  we  should  drink  it  .  right  now  .  crack  it  open  .  if  i’m  drinking  this  ,  ❞  he  goes  on  ,  beaming  ,  ❝  i  want  to  share  it  with  a  great  friend  .  ❞
