They went from ‘despair’ to ‘hope’  7.02 / 7.06.

When Arya confronts Sansa about that note, she’s testing her.  The last time Arya actually knew who Sansa was as a person, she’d betrayed their father and family for her desire to be queen.  Sure, Sansa siding with the Lannisters was naive, childish, selfish, and rewarded with a lot of pain, but Arya doesn’t really know about that (as Sansa pointed out).  Arya has no concept of who Sansa is as a person and vice versa.   Now she comes home to see Sansa as the Lady of Winterfell with Littlefinger as her closest adviser.  Meanwhile Jon’s position is being openly questioned by the weak willed Lords.  

When Arya finds the note after being played by Littlefinger, it’s just bringing back an old conflict that needs to be gone through in the narrative.  Sansa was stupid and selfish as a girl in her quest to be Joffrey’s queen - as both sisters have pointed out in various scenes.  Sansa’s not responsible for what happened to their family, but she sure didn’t help the Starks in season 1.  It wouldn’t make sense for Arya to come back to Winterfell, see Sansa playing queen while Littlefinger whispers in her ear, and not be suspicious.  

Plus I actually think Sansa’s well earned ability to “play the game” is her Stark superpower.  One which for all the faceless men training, Arya simply doesn’t have.   She’s never had to ferret out the truth and spy on someone as skilled at deception and spying as Littlefinger.  She’s mucking this one up, which I think story-wise is nicely highlighting their different skill sets and allowing the sisters to resolve some very deep issues.  

Sansa’s probably going to be the one to figure out what’s going on, because by now she should be able to see Littlefinger’s up to some sneaky, self-serving shit.  

But in that last scene, I don’t think Arya’s actually threatening to kill her sister.  I think that whatever answer Arya was looking for when it came to Sansa and Jon, she’s mostly figured it out with their previous interactions.

In the last scene, Arya flat out answers Sansa’s questions with way more info than is needed.  Faceless men don’t just go around and explain this kind of stuff to people.  They don’t say they’re faceless men who trained in Bravos.

Sansa asks, “What does that mean?” and I think the rest of their conversation is more or less Arya answering that question.  

First she brings up the game of faces which is actually apart of the Faceless Men training.  In season 5, Jaqen H’ghar actually interrupts the Waif from playing that game with Arya, because she hadn’t given up her identity yet.  It’s training to ferret out lies.  You don’t explain to someone you’re super suspicious of that you have been trained to be a human lie detector.  

Sansa doesn’t want to play.  Season one Sansa probably would have just to humor Arya.  That Sansa wrote the very note in question out of the same intimidation Arya’s applying to her.   Season seven Sansa wants to know about the faces despite her visible fear and pushes the question.

Arya alludes to killing the last person who’d asked questions - probably the waif.  Then she again flat out explains what the faces are for, arguably in a more direct manner than has even been explained in the series.  

And then she further demonstrates by approaching Sansa with the assassin’s dagger.   Arya’s never wanted to wear pretty dresses or be the Lady of Winterfell.  This isn’t about jealousy.  What’s she’s doing here is further demonstrating who she is to her sister and hammering home to Sansa just how much of a killer she’s become.  

Sansa’s intimidated, but doesn’t break eye contact or back away.  

Finally, Arya hands the assassin dagger to Sansa and walks out.  She’s literally giving the answer to Sansa in tangible form and leaving her to work through all Arya’s revealed.
