Tips for Beginner Woodworkers Hey guys! Since I’ve been asked a lot lately. I wanted to take a moment and share some tips for anyone interested in getting into woodworking. These are just my humble opinion and it’s what has helped me personally to be successful. 1- Start where you are and with what you have, acquire tools as the project dictates it. As I always say #goshapesomewood Just get out there and start. 2- Pick a project that you’ll love working on and a piece that you or someone else (if making for someone else) have a need for. 3-Plan out your project, create a design, sketch it up, calculate measurements and material requirements, you’ll save time instead of staring at your wall in the shop or garage 4-Think about how you will supply yourself with wood material you need to build projects. Will you use reclaimed wood like pallet wood or wood from a salvage yard, new material from a local saw mill or will you go to a big box store? The wood source will change the project requirements and the effort that will go into it. If the wood is not already surfaced on all 4 sides, meaning it isn’t square, then you have to make it so it is. Most likely you’ll end up an one of the big box stores since you may not have the tools to surface the wood yourself. Plan the cost into your project and it should work out just fine.
