the goron is not born. it is a mystery as to what animates them, but they are not born as many other denizens of hyrule. instead, the young goron is built. according to goron, the first rock chosen in their building is what keeps their personhood, and damage to that stone is damage to the self. though the building of a young goron is considered to be a community activity, what outsiders are permitted to learn was described as such: first, the initial rock is chosen. there is a gap here, as what happens is private. then, the outer shell is built. the goron who build the youngest take a part of themself for the offspring’s shell, and lava is used almost as to weld the young goron’s body together.

the young goron does not grow, but as the goron ages, it may choose to rebuild itself. this is a community activity, and the rebuilding is concluded with much eating and drinking and merriment. however, eventually the rock deteriorates. while this occurs, it becomes more dangerous to rebuild the outer casement of the goron. any damage to the initial rock is unacceptable, and rebuilding is not preferable to the aged goron. after death, it is possible to date a goron and discover its age by looking at the rings left behind by many rebuildings.

goron that can paraglide are few and far between, because the goron is made of stone. however, those looking for the ability can grow using pumice, or remove major parts of early growth and keep themself hollow. the second option is unpopular due to the fragility of this design.
