okay but in this post heated rivalry world I think we need to acknowledge the beauty of the movie Goon (2011) for giving a heart wrenching hockey story about a homoerotic broship between an autistic enforcer who is too kind and earnest and his team's star center who is in the middle of his own self destructive downward spiral. together with the power of friendship and fighting they become best friends and kick ass on the ice. Xavier LaFlamme is like if Ilya was French, and Doug Glatt is not really like Shane but that's okay, I'm not saying its 1 to 1 I'm saying if you like Heated Rivalry give Goon a try and see the Doug/Xavier potential that I do
it's about finding who you are. it's about letting down your walls and caring about something. it's about charged eye contact while one person beats up another player for touching his precious center
Watching Goon now. Clearly a hockey movie made with Americans who know nothing about hockey in mind. 5 minutes in and it's already done more to show me what hockey culture is like than HR. Not a romance to say the least. 😬
