Final Thoughts
Claude has become one of my favorite SEO assistants because it excels at analyzing large datasets, spotting patterns, and generating strategic insights. The real advantage isn't replacing SEO expertise it's eliminating repetitive tasks so you can focus on growth.
If you're using Claude only for writing content, you're missing its biggest strength: strategic SEO analysis.
Which of these prompts are you going to try first?
The High Search Volume Trap: My Biggest SEO Mistake
We thought we had found the perfect keyword.
12,000 monthly searches High traffic potential.
The client was excited. Honestly, so was I.
At the time, it looked like a golden opportunity. If we could Rank for this keyword, thousands of visitors would land on the website every month.
What could possibly go wrong?
As it turned out, almost everything.
The Keyword That Looked Perfect
A few years ago, I was working with a company that sold industrial automation solutions.
During keyword research, we found a term with around 12,000 monthly searches.
The search volume was significantly higher than anything else in the industry.
The keyword was broad, popular, and appeared highly relevant to the client’s business.
Naturally, we made it a priority. i created content around it.
Optimized pages for it. Built internal links.
Earned backlinks.
Month after month, i invested effort into ranking for that keyword.
Eventually, we succeeded.
Traffic started growing.
The client was thrilled.
At least initially.
The Problem Nobody Saw Coming
Six months later, something felt wrong.
Website traffic had increased dramatically.
But inquiries had barely moved.
Leads were almost flat.
Sales conversations weren’t increasing.
The numbers simply didn’t make sense.
If thousands of people were finding the website, why weren’t they contacting the company?
That’s when we decided to dig deeper.
What We Discovered
The keyword was attracting visitors.
Just not the right visitors.
When we analyzed user behavior, search intent became painfully obvious.
Most people searching for that keyword were looking for:
Definitions
Educational content
Student projects
General information
Industry research
Very few were looking to buy automation services.
We had optimized for volume instead of intent.
The keyword looked relevant from an SEO Perspective. But it wasn’t aligned with the business goal And business goals matter far more than traffic numbers.
The Shift That Changed Everything
Instead of chasing large search volumes, we changed our strategy.
We started targeting keywords with commercial intent.
The search volumes were much smaller.
Some had only 100 to 300 searches per month.
Others had even less, But the people searching those terms were actively looking for solutions.
They had problems to solve, Budgets to spend.
Projects to execute.
We created content around those keywords.
We optimized service pages.
We improved calls to action And we focused relentlessly on search intent.
The Results
Within a few months, something interesting happened.
Traffic actually decreased. But leads increased.
Sales inquiries increased.
Demo requests increased.
Most importantly, revenue opportunities increased.
The client stopped asking about traffic reports.
They started asking how many qualified leads came from SEO.
That was the moment I learned a lesson I’ll never forget.
The Biggest SEO Mistake
Many marketers fall into the same trap.
They see a keyword with massive search volume and assume it will generate business results.
But search volume alone means very little.
A keyword with 200 searches and strong buying intent can be worth far more than a keyword with 12,000 searches and no commercial value.
Today, when I evaluate keywords, I ask one question before looking at search volume:
“What is this person actually trying to achieve when they search?”
Because ranking is not the goal.
Traffic is not the goal.
Business growth is the goal. And sometimes the most valuable keywords are the ones nobody gets excited about at first glance.
Final Takeaway
If your SEO strategy is focused primarily on search volume, you may be optimizing for vanity metrics instead of business outcomes.
Before targeting any keyword, understand the intent behind the search.
The right visitors will always outperform more visitors.
And that lesson cost me six months to learn.
🚨 BREAKING SEO NEWS
After years of limited visibility into AI search performance, Google has finally launched AI Performance Reports in Google Search Console (Beta).
This means we can now track how our websites perform across: ✅ AI Overviews ✅ AI Mode ✅ AI features in Discover
Sounds exciting, right?
Well... yes and no. 👀
The good news: We can now see AI-related impressions and filter the data by country and device.
The bad news: We're still missing some of the most important metrics:
❌ Clicks ❌ CTR ❌ Average Position ❌ Query Data ❌ Citation Data ❌ Grounding Queries
So while this report is great for showing clients that AI visibility is growing, there's still one big problem:
"Which queries are driving those impressions?"
And unfortunately, Google isn't giving us that answer yet.
As SEO professionals, we've been navigating AI search with limited visibility for a long time. This update is definitely a step forward, but it feels more like the beginning than the final solution.
Personally, I'm happy Google finally gave us something.
But I was expecting much more.
At the moment, Bing Webmaster Tools still provides deeper AI performance insights.
💡 My Take:
AI SEO is no longer a future trend.
Google is officially building reporting around it.
The question is no longer: "Should we optimize for AI?"
The question is: "How fast can we adapt?"
What do you think?
Is this enough data for AI SEO reporting, or should Google provide deeper insights?
👇 Let's discuss.
