HELLO THERE !  honestly, the best thing to do is try out all the different features.  surprisingly, you can do a lot of different stuff on google docs and if i’m honest i still haven’t figured everything out.

anyway, one of the first things you can do is play around with the whole page setup ― so things like document sizes, margins and page colors.  just go to ‘file ➝ page setup’ and a window with all these options will pop up.  just try out different things and it will already make your doc feel different.

in general, almost all the options under ‘insert’ and ‘format’ are your friend if you wanna make pretty docs so i’m gonna give a quick overview over most of them and what they do.

one pretty neat thing is ‘insert ➝ image’ and ‘insert ➝ watermark’.  images are pretty much self-explanatory ― just add whatever you like and if you wanna change it a bit more you can go to ‘image options’ where you can resize / recolor / adjust it and you can even add a frame if you want.  now as for watermarks, they work similar to images but with a few differences: 

you technically can only choose one watermark ( you might be able to pick more because i managed that once but tbh i haven’t yet figured out how to effectively do that again. )

watermarks are saved in the header so if you remove the header the watermark’s gonna be removed as well.

you can change the opacity which can give your doc a nice personal touch if you have a small image you wanna have included.

watermarks are visible on all pages at the same exact position.  so one thing watermarks can be really good for is if you wanna use a background image that isn’t just one color.

another really nice thing to make your docs pretty is ‘insert ➝ drawing’.  you can do a lot of stuff you normally can’t do like using shapes and word art ( but you can also do normal stuff like adding text via text fields or add in images ) and i suggest you just play around with it a little to see what works best for you.  drawings are probably one of the most powerful things if you wanna give your docs your own personal touch.

some more interesting things in the insert category are the horizontal line, headers and footers and break.  and, of course, tables but since you said you already know how to use them, i’m not gonna talk about them here.

now, one of the things i almost constantly use is ‘format ➝ paragraph styles ➝ borders and shading’.  with that feature ( combined with ‘format ➝ columns’ ) you can technically make your very own tables without the use of tables.  add borders to your text or give it a background color ( which is similar to the highlight color thing you can add to text but more ... clean i would say ― depending on what you wanna do one or the other might be better suited for it. )

since i already mentioned the highlight color option, it’s another thing you can use to make pretty things.  let’s say you wanna do something like this ( picture down below because i’m not sure how to explain it )

use the highlight color tool on your text and then ‘format ➝ line and paragraph spacing ➝ costum spacing’ and play around with the numbers to shorten or highten the colored line behind the text. 

My google docs is having language problems. My headings are in English but the what to write under the heading texts are in a different language. (I'm using a resume template).

I've made sure in the settings that my language is English but it hasn't fixed the issue.

HEY THERE!  oh, there's a pretty easy fix for this.  instead of copy and pasting singular sections, you need to copy the last two sections and paste them beneath the already existing sections.  you should end up with something like this then:

now you probably notice that the format for the last section is a little messed up but to change that just click anywhere on the word SECTION and go to ‘format ➝ paragraph styles ➝ borders and shading’ and use the settings down below to get the right effect.

hi there ! starting with your second question because it’s easier to explain. also it technically isn’t a highlighted space because to create it i’ve added a single character ( in most cases i go with a single dot . ) because it doesn’t impact anything else. just color the character in the same color as the one your using for your highlight and it creates the illusion of a colored space.

now as for the other technique, it’s basically just as easy. first off, just select the text you want wanna use and highlight it in whatever color you want. then go to format ➝ line and paragraph spacing ➝ costum spacing and type in whatever number you want. the lesser the number, the smaller the highlight size will be. for this specific docs i went with 0.45 but honestly, just play around with various numbers and see what you like best.

HELLO THERE!  yes, it’s possible ― maybe a little bit tricky since you can’t just copy and paste but i’ll try to explain it as simple as possible.

first important thing to note is that i’ve been using tables inside another table’s cells, so to make a new column make sure you’ve selected the outer table.  ( easiest way to to that is by clicking anywhere on FIRST LAST and just use the up arrow on your keyboard to get there. )  right click with your muse and either choose ‘insert column right’ or ‘insert column left’ to make your fourth column.  your table should look somewhat like this now.  ( not very pretty but we'll get to that part at the end. )

next thing you need to do is add a new table into the cells of the new column.  just use ‘insert ➝ table ➝ 1x1’ and a new cell ( probably with a black frame ) will appear inside blue table.  that’s one of the most important parts because otherwise it will completely destroy the layout; and remember to do that in the other rows as well.

now all that’s left to do is the copy and paste part.  copy one of the inner tables ( so the whole part from FIRST LAST to fandom - faceclaim, everything should be highlighted ) and paste it into the 1x1 table you made in the last step.  it should automatically format it to fit right into the cell ― if a little smaller than the other ones that don’t quite fit anymore after having made the fourth column.  to make them all fit again, just copy and paste the table that should have the right sizes onto the other inner tables and they should look good again.

hi there! for your first question regarding the color of the lines underneath the guidelines i've answered it here before. ( tldr; go to ‘format ➝ paragraph styles ➝ borders and shading’ where you’ll find options to change the color / thickness / style / etc. of the lines )

as for your other question regarding the color behind the text that is simply the 'highlight colour' ( circled in the image under the read more ) which you can find in the top next to the buttons for bold, italic, underlined and text color. there you can change it to whichever color you want. but if you meant the color behind the text in the verse section with 'fandom/age' you can find that when you go to ‘format ➝ paragraph styles ➝ borders and shading’ as well. there you can find it under the 'background colour' option.
