Food ordering and delivery startups are attracting entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and consumers. Foodpanda, TinyOwl, Swiggy are some of the better known names of food aggregator and delivery startups. In recent months Foodpanda has been in the lime light for all the wrong reasons. There was news about the rocket internet backed company facing stiff competition from other Indian market players. Although Foodpanda has also been integrated into the cab hailing platform Ola, to enable a seamless food ordering experience for Ola users, there have been ample number of issues hindering its growth. There have been scenarios wherein the company claimed that it had more than 12,000 registered restaurants, but in truth the real number was only around 2,000. Food panda’s customer care was also outsourced where the company was paying a salary for 200 odd customer care executives, but at any given time not more than 60-70 employees were ever present in the office. Rather than involving a well-known ad agency, the company roped in Crazy Boyz Entertainment Pvt. Ltd which turned out to be Foodpanda’s co-founder and MD, Rohit Chadda’s, who was also the director of the ad agency. Crazy Boyz’s portfolio only includes Foodpanda campaign, yet was awarded a contract of Rs 3 crore. The company is also known for taking and processing orders for restaurants that have long been shut down. Between March and August 2015, Foodpanda is said to have removed over 400 fake restaurants from its platform. Due to all such incidents and fabrication of facts, the company has lost its market share despite being one of the early birds in the food delivering market in India.
