when it came to autistic headcanons for haikyuu on hqtwt, a lot of people seemed to be like "yeah kageyama is definitely autistic" but ended up leaving out hinata as adhd but allistic. but thinking about it more, I think that hinata is pretty clearly autistic too. he's just a different kind of autistic to kageyama.
he's sensory-seeking and often takes things literally. jokes easily fly over his head. he's got an obvious special interest-level obsession with volleyball. he tends to be uninterested in certain social conventions, but folds when he realizes he might be punished for ignoring them.
just because he's high-energy, friendly, and sociable doesn't mean he isn't autistic.
I find this especially interesting considering that pretty much all the people I've seen dismiss the idea of autistic hinata also saw bokuto as obviously autistic+adhd, when hinata and bokuto's auDHD traits are almost identical. I really wonder why that was the case.
I feel like we as artists would all be better off if we stopped being so anal about people saying our art reminded them of someone else's.
and to be clear, I'm not talking about people calling someone a copycat/cheap knock-off or comparing people's art to put one of them down. I'm talking about things like "this reminds me of [insert thing here]!" or other completely neutral statements.
I think our culture has this strange obsession with this specific vision of the "auteur," that good art is created by geniuses whose ideas are completely and wholey original and unique and so if my art is seen as similar to someone else's, that must mean it's unoriginal and bad and I'm a bad artist.
but like, the thing is that's never been how art is made. at the end of the day, your art is a reflection of everything you've ever loved, through what and how you choose to create, as well as a reflection of everything you've ever hated, through what and how you choose not to create. and everything you've ever loved or hated is a reflection of everything their creators loved and hated.
it is quite literally inevitable that someone is going to see similarities between something you made and something someone else made. this is not a bad thing. take it as proof that you are a human surrounded and influenced by art made by other humans.

the next person I see say shuvalt is "flavorless childhood friends to lovers" is getting catapulted into the fucking sun. shuvalt isn't just childhood friends to lovers, they're childhood friends to rivals to enemies to rivals to lovers.
shu got into beyblade because of valt and they made a promise to each other, but shu failed to keep that promise and, after failing to live up to his own expectations, literally almost destroyed himself and every meaningful relationship he's ever had (including with valt) over it. meanwhile valt was out here risking his life to save him.
from cho-z through gt, they consider each other rivals but shu isn't the most relevant in these seasons.
but then in superking, shu is now in "I can fix him" mode with lane while valt is worrying about wth shu is doing. he's going around all concerned that shu is going to self-destruct again like ?)![÷[%<^@%$<-<!(?#%)%>_×] and it's a serious relief when that doesn't happen.
and then shu goes to therapy in dynamite battle and shu and valt kiss at the end of quadstrike probably.
admittedly in the seasons where shu is a significantly less important character than valt their relationship is like mild at best, but the point is that if u can't see the flavor in their relationship at all u are literally not looking.
yknow, when I first played goodbye volcano high, I didn't really "get" it. like, despite being a part of the demographic directly targeted by the game's themes (the covid-year high school graduates), it just didn't hit me since I never saw covid as like a precursor to the end of the world or whatever.
but with everything that's been going on recently, I'm finally starting to feel the ideas presented in the game hit me like emotionally.
how to explain to people that capitalism is inherently anti-art and all of its legal inventions made to support itself are also anti-art
