the thing about lobelia is that the duality he has isn't scheming scumbag vs murder man it's childlike joy vs hyperviolence
LISTEN !!! the guy still believed in santa way past his prime. all he searches for is happiness much like how a kid would only do things they want to do, not have to do. even in the vday fate episodes, he made that whole elaborate plan to get danchou to lower their guard so he could achieve his goal of happiness in the end (because he wanted to shove a bouquet of flowers through his chest for his sake of happiness). basically the main contrast of lobelia's character and what really sets him apart from belial and siete in the smug face trio is that he's being smug about it like a teenager would like that's how much emotional maturity he has. siete being smug is usually because of his confidence because he's prepared for it! and when things don't go his way, he's funny (pathetic (affectionate)). belial being smug usually as a taunt to thrown off his opponent or as a mind game chip idk why he's like this i have to /throttles belial (affectionate)
anyway, i think this leans headcanon territory but it kind of makes sense since when Lobelia was a kid, he killed his parents and enjoyed it. so he never really had to face the consequences of his actions (because his actions brought him joy) and thus never matured past a certain point. yknow coming of age milestones that got skipped over and now he's stuck in some self-murder limbo because that's happiness forever. like there's some stunted emotional growth here that's not addressed out in the open and instead we have The Tower there as like Lobelia's personal self-fulfilment yaoi partner instead of making Lobelia feel other emotions like we finally see hints of annoyance when he mentioned how ugly the mewgulls' cries were and now that he's on danchou's side there's a bit more variance to him instead of the usual rotation of emotions of scheming, taunting, joy and not much else ??? WHAT MY POINT IS WHERE ARE HIS OTHER EMOTIONS CYGAMES? WHEN WILL HE FINALLY CRY??? /i am forcibly removed from the premises
