The Frog Queen Meditation
Iâve been reading âGood Faeries/Bad Faeriesâ by Froud and Iâm excited to share this with you. Most of the text Iâve read for each faery so far is some brief text that explains a bit about them. However, for the Frog Queen it provides what to me is a meditation. I read the text twice to get the details in my mind, closed my eyes, did some breathing, and followed through the meditation. The whispering pixies of doubt held me a bit back before the plunge, but the Frog Queen pulled me in before jumping. Once I finished the meditation, I felt much more refreshed and realized what I had asked her for was âclarity.â I felt more confidence in that moment of the next few steps I needed to take regarding my life. Everyoneâs experience may differ, but I hope it is helpful in some way!
Here is the text:
âThere in the inner realm of Faery, this Frog Queen is surrounded by earthy and water companions: the little impulses of our nature, and one little whim that needs to be pampered. Pignut the pixie laughs and says: âShe hasnât even got her croak to keep her warm.â The others groan and roll their eyes while the Frog Queen smiles her secret smile.
The queen has left her crown and robe behind, for today sheâs going swimmingâin the well of inspiration. Some call it the well well, or healing wellâor the need well, for it provides you with what you need. Through our imaginations, we can follow her into the well. Let her leap be yours, and swim downward into the dark and soothing depths.
Many faces peer down at you from the distant surface of the wellâfaery thoughts and impulses that you must leave behind. Name them if you can, then let them go and leave them at the surface. Follow the Frog Queen deeper and deeper, and all you no longer need is washed away. Deeper, deeper, deeperâŚDarkness gives way to a golden glow surrounding you with pervasive warmth as a rich golden light permeates every part of your body, every part of your soul. Rest here for as long as you desireâŚthen ask this faery for whatever you need most. Her gift takes the form of a radiant golden ballâhold it to your heart, and its buoyancy will lift you to the surface once more. As you break through to the air above, the ball has become a part of you, radiating faery warmth, light, and power deep inside you. As you emerge from the well feeling light, refreshed, and clean, remember to thank the Frog Queen for her help. She will reply that you are welcome to return to the well anytime you need to.â
Good Faeries/Bad Faeries
by Brian Froud
"Once upon a time, I thought faeries lived only in books, old folktales, and the past. That was before they burst upon my life as vibrant, luminous beings, permeating my art and my everyday existence, causing glorious havocâŚ." In the long-awaited sequel to the international bestseller Faeries, artist Brian Froud rescues pixies, gnomes, and other faeries from the isolation of the nursery and the distance of history, bringing them into the present day with vitality and imagination. In this richly imagined new book, Brian reveals the secrets he has learned from the faeries â what their noses and shoes look like, what mischief and what gentle assistance they can give, what their souls and their dreams are like. As it turns out, faeries arenât all sweetness and light. In addition to such good faeries as Dream Weavers and Faery Godmothers, Brian introduces us to a host of less well behaved creatures â traditional bad faeries like Morgana le Fay, but also the Soul Shrinker and the Gloominous Doom. The faery kingdom, we find, is as subject to good and evil as the human realm. Brilliantly documenting both the dark and the light, Good Faeries/Bad Faeries presents a world of enchantment and magic that deeply compels the imagination.

'The Faery of Transformation; The touch of this faery's wand brings clarity and a certain transparency. Like this faery, we become transparent to ourselves, able to see that every inner space and corner is clear, bright, free from hidden agendas or distorted motivations.' Brian Froud. (I've been in such a fairy-obsessed mood lately that I had to take out this childhood favorite!)
