Smash has done multiple things like this in the past. Game assets added, but never used. I wouldn't be surprised if they showed up as trophies or something, but if they come out as DLC, it would be completely unnecessary. It's not confirmed by anyone at this point so I have a hard time believing it. I also think that Nintendo will do what they want. They could easily be like "we were developing these characters and decided not to use them or the assets involved because they didn't fit."
It got confirmed by the Cutting Room Floor guys, and they’re pretty legit. They could be playing along or messing with people but I don’t see any reason why they would, their website’s an archive of datamined content from thousands of games, so they know how to get at this stuff.
People like to throw around the ‘well maybe its unused stuff!’ thing a lot too, but these are actual extractable audio files added in the latest patch. All the unused data in the past has been text files referencing other files that don’t exist, like the audio tracks in Brawl that didn’t make it into the final game. Those were referenced in file indexes. Those weren’t actual audio tracks, like these are. These also aren’t trophies and I’m not sure where you got that idea. We know what kinds of files these are because they’ve been extracted. They’re victory themes for post-match stuff. And a few stage themes.
I’m comfortable calling it all legit at this point. I could be wrong but historically these kind of leaks have been legit for other games. Lots of games accidentally leak DLC details when they patch in preparation for that stuff to be finalized in a later patch.
People are advocating the idea that somehow they just accidentally made entirely new character victory themes and level music and accidentally added them to the game or something. which, lol?
