GODLESS PUNKSÂ
   by @angelolytle
What was your favorite part of the process of writing and publishing Godless Punks? What about the most difficult part? How did it compare to BASA? :)
Thank you for the questions Lexi!! <3
My favorite part of the writing process was getting to the ending! It felt v cinematic in my head and like all the pieces were coming together, and I felt like the ending was just what I wanted it to be. For publishing, my favorite part was seeing @sobcat 's incredible cover art!!
The most difficult part was getting over my self doubt. For a long time after finishing the book I was very frustrated with it after so much reading, rereading, and revising, and I felt like it was garbage. I took a long break, and when I came back, I realized that a lot of that negativity was all in my head.
BASA felt easy to write, while Godless Punks was a lot harder for a variety of reasons. For one, I wasn't working a full-time job while writing BASA. Godless Punks was also my first serious venture into full-on fantasy rather than contemporary fiction with fantastical/supernatural elements, so that was a challenge. There are also a ton of fight scenes in GP and I wasn't very experienced with that. I'd also never written six different POV characters for one story before!!
That being said, I'm very glad that I pushed myself out of my comfort zone to write GP! I want to keep pushing myself and growing as an author :)

Godless Punks: Prologue
Eun
Six years ago
Screams and the slick splatter of blood across Eun's cheek jarred her from dreams of home. Her eyes snapped open. Spider-like grey limbs towered all around her bedroll, leading up, up, to a creature that wasn't supposed to exist.
Its glassy black eyes reflected Eunâs pale face and Mal's corpse, impaled on its leg beside Eun, the fellow mercenary's blood darkening the sand. He was an older man, kind, who liked to tell tales of his travels. He reminded Eun of her uncle.
Eun held her breath, unblinking, immobile, every muscle locked up no matter how she pleaded with them to move. The creature raised its leg. It stabbed downward with savage force.
Progress Update
I know Iâve been a little dead on Tumblr lately, especially when it comes to original content, so just a little update: the first draft of Godless Punks is currently at 61k words. Iâm estimating that the final wordcount will be 80k, which means Iâm in the final stretch! I hope that I can finish before the fall semester starts, while I still have a lot of free time, but weâll see!
Godless Punks Excerpt: Chapter 13
Time for the plan. Miles pulled out the bottle that had been tucked into the front of his pants, jabbing its neck against his stomach. Ifrit wrinkled his nose against the sharp, chemical smell radiating from it.
Miles glanced his way. Light me up, would you?
Go die, Ifrit replied automatically. Little flames flared to life at the tips of his blackened fingertips. Holy fire in a demon's hand. It was a strange sight even for Miles, who couldn't give a damn about the divine. Ifrit touched his fingers to the cloth wick and lit it.
Miles cocked his arm back and hurled the bottle bomb through the second-story window of Qahrâs bedroom. Glass shattered and rained down. A glimpse of bright, blinding fire, before the smoke pouring from the room choked out the view.
Boom, baby! Miles threw his hands up and barely resisted the urge to whoop. Did you see that? My aim is amazing, I know.
Ifrit ignored him. He made to move but Miles sensed his intent, reacting fast and grabbing him by the horn. Ifrit snarled and shook him off. Fucking let go. This is stupid. If the book burnsâ
Just trust me. The first thing Qahr does will be to make sure itâs safe. Miles smirked. Oh, but it wonât be safe from us.
