cool. cool. hey speaking of really weird fish someone brought a great one to my attention a while back
its called the red-lipped batfish ! and it lives around the galapagos islands, making its living luring in prey with the terrible terrible protrusion coming out of its face (sort of like the unfortunate cousin to the already unfortunate angler fish )
its, i cant honestly imagine what this fish goes through on a day to day basis, its like a frog, a manta ray, and a camera tripod just…. smashed together
the “nose” of this fish is actually a heavily modified dorsal fin ! it prefers to wait for things to approach it, hence the small fins along the side thatre adapted for walking on the bottom of the seafloor, and is understandable pretty poor at swimming
the reason why the fishes lips are so Dang Red is actually unknown BUT therere a few theories floating around that have to do with other species of batfish recognizing each other during courtship rituals - just a real great fish overall
