+ a little lore of that
Zachar Omarov isnāt just āmentally illā in a straightforward way. His brain is like a war zone. Heās dealing with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, which means his reality is always glitching. One moment, heās drowning in darkness; the next, heās in an intense, chaotic high where nothing feels real or off-limits. During one of those manic episodes, completely disconnected from reality, he brutally killed two people. There was no clear motive and no logicājust a pure psychological breakdown.
Instead of going to prison, he ends up locked in a high-security psych ward. There are cameras, routines, medication, and constant observation. Heās not easy to manage either. Sometimes he barely speaks, as if heās not even there. Other times, he says things that are sharp, as if he sees right through people. Itās unsettling.
Then thereās his doctor, Lev Ivanov. On paper, heās just another psychiatrist. In reality, though, heās not exactly stable himself. He starts off genuinely interested in Zachar as a case because, honestly, Zacharās mind is complicated in a way that's hard to ignore. But that curiosity doesnāt stay professional for long.
Ivanov begins spending more and more time with him. At first, itās for extra observation; then it turns into long conversations that have nothing to do with treatment. He starts to feel like heās the only one who understands Omarov, like everyone else is missing something important. And that idea sticks.
Gradually, it stops being about helping. It becomes something much more personalāand unhealthy. Lev starts bending rules, ignoring boundaries, and even altering reports to keep Zachar close. He becomes emotionally attached, as if he needs those interactions. It feels like Zachar is the only thing grounding him, or perhaps the thing pulling him deeper.
And Zachar? Heās not as unaware as people think. Whether heās doing it on purpose or not, he starts feeding into itāsometimes opening up just enough, sometimes pulling back, keeping Ivanov constantly off balance. Itās like a push-and-pull that neither can control.
At some point, the roles stop making sense. The doctor isnāt really in control anymore, and the patient isnāt just a patient. It transforms into a messed-up, intense connection where both are kind of losing themselvesāand maybe dragging each other down with them. And inside a locked ward, where no one is watching closely enough⦠that kind of obsession can become dangerous quickly.
