          Bree froze as Angela entered the kitchen, looking borderline-panicked as she caught the vampire cradling a bowl and a spoon in her mouth. She did it so often at home, she forgot humans didn’t typically eat raw cookie dough by the spoon without worrying about bacteria and salmonella... and they had so much left over, she just... kept eating. “--- oh. I’m probably--- I’ll be fine. I mean, who really gets salmonella anyway?”

He’s close, can breathe her in and hear her arteries themselves work within her tiny frame. It’s the dull hum of mortality he’d gotten used to hearing with her always around. Why she hadn’t run yet was beyond him.

After all, there was always the locker room.

          “I------ uh, I--- was in the forest, aaaaand... and, um...” Bree’s mouth opened and closed stupidly as she tried to fabricate any semblance of a believable story to explain the substantial blood on her shirt as she entered the house. She hadn’t paid enough attention coming in to realize humans were around, especially not with the animal blood sticking so close, and Bella hadn’t mentioned anything about Angela coming over. She didn’t usually pay surprise visits. “I tripped on a root and fell on a... bird. I fell on a bird and it got crushed under me and it’s dead now and this is its blood.” Bree hoped NONE of her siblings were nearby or within vampire ear shot or she was never, ever going to live this stupid lie down.
