Kira had felt like at home in the New York Institute after she asked to be transfered from Japan. The demon activity wasn't as high as it is in New York and it had become boring going to missions one time a week or so. Besides, there were more people in the Institute and she was...Let's say that she was the newest addition to the Nephilim family there. Her first two weeks in New York have been quite exciting, meeting the Lightwoods was a great excitement for her because of everything she has heard from them in Idris. Isabelle had been with her most of the time, helping her to train and such to become a more experienced Shadowhunters, a chance that it was barely given to her back home. She was training at the moment, wielding her katana around the targets she had placed to be able to take it to another level. Katana, besides the seraph blades, were her weapon of choice. It was like an extended part of her just like the whip was for Isabelle. She spots Jace walking and she stops everything before rushing to her. "Jace" she calls as she makes her way down the stairs of the training room. "Izzy told me to ask you if you could train me" she starts. "I know already, but she wants your approval of my training for when a mission comes up so I can go with all of you" she explains.

The point is that on purpose Alec never refered to Jace as his brother because he doesn't see him as his brother, he is in love with him. And that was done on purpose by the former show runners and that has apparently been thrown out now because Alec can't stop being like JACE MY BROTHER. That's why people are annoyed. Continuity and the possible retconning of Alec's romantic feelings.
i mean, there are more ways to be a brother than just by family. There are brother in arms (which is literally what they are), and also the fact that Alec had feelings for Jace doesn’t take away that they were raised as brothers (I mean, Isabelle refers to Jace as “our brother” so it’s save to assume that this is what all the Lightwoods were raised as in reference to him, even if they did meet later in life), and like......god forbid Alec is moving on from his feelings....or that maybe Alec’s feelings are more complicated than just “he is in love with Jace”

i think it has a lot to do with the fact that warlocks and other downworlders do not have pure demon blood running in their veins, it's an inherited genetic disease, where sebastian was corrupted in the womb and throughout his life and it changed his very nature??
